Generally he gave some defining characteristics and attributes that defined arborists. Some were obsevations from clients, relatives, ex wife, students (he was the creator of the apprenticeship program that I am now fortunate enough to help with). I remember one generalization 'arborists are like crows, they flock to things that are shiny,' like gear.

tips and tricks for pruning; advantages of fc and the rg. redirects and such. Learning to prune / access branch ends WITHOUT the use of a polesaw.

Tophopper, great idea. I think there would be a lot of interest is that.

It would be good to show how to prune and work the tips. I've got an idea of how to build the display. Instead of the usual tree trunk in a stand I'd cut away the trunk and have the canopy in the stand. Then, build the stage in and around the main branches.

Tom, Tophopper had a great suggestion and you have a great implementation. I would think it would make it a lot easier to watch the demo if it were down low like that.

Mark,
How bout something on tree risk assessment? We have been doing this for awhile and have found numerous trees that were hollow that were slated to prune. Most wound up being removed. Some were not safe to climb or rig from. The tree section in the pic was one. This tree was designated for a prune. After the crew sounded the tree, they decided to do a further investigation. Using an 1/8" diameter drill bit, they discovered the tree was critical risk. The client was notified of their findings and the tree was removed. In our opinion, this tree would have failed had it been climbed.

Hi Mark,

Sounds like another great topic would be to have a workshop on cutting spring poles (or wood under tension). ??

If you need help during the demos, let me know?

Well Hello, and yeah, sounds like I shouldn't miss that one.

And while you are here, thanks again for all of your hard work in making the crane workshop a huge success! You are a class act Melissa! /forum/images/graemlins/wink.gif
