Handsaw on leg vs. saddle

Just seeing what other climbers prefer. Please feel free to add your two cents. I personally climb with my saw on my leg, really dislike my handsaw on my saddle.

i put mine on the leg strap recently and I loved it!! This way it isnt as close to the chainsaw. Also is at perfect reach for my arm.

saddle all the way. I'm right handed and keep the saw on my left and lanyard right. You'd think it's counter-intuitive, but for me works very well. Tried the leg scabbard for a minute, but wasn't feeling it.

I'm pretty sure there is a tread for this very subject, but FTR I'm a saddle kind of guy.

I like it on the leg but recently bought a silky and havent found the scabbard comfortable yet.The buckingham scabbard always worked well for me.

+1. Either I'm getting muscle bound or I've lost some flexibility but it's just a whole lot quicker for me to reach down on my leg than it is to mess around with it on my saddle.

I made my silky into a leg scabbard and love it. It frees up my saddle and i'm never searching for the scabbard dangling and swinging. Also, i didn't plan it like this but it worked out real well...my handsaw scabbard is straight and tucks right under the big velcro strap on my gecko spikes. The large velcro strap goes over the scabbard and the leather one by my boot goes under it. i can't even feel it there.

I just switched recently to a leg scabbard. I see positives and negatives in both.

Its so much easier to reach on your leg. Very easy to find and especially always easy to put back. The biggest thing i didn't like about having the scabbard on my saddle was sometimes when in precarious positions you couldn't find the scabbard or it wasn't easy to put back because of the position your in.

I thought it would take a while to get used to it on my leg. I was suprised that it almost never gets in the way. Only seldomly does the rope catch it. Thats the biggest downside for me.

Im also right handed but I have my hand saw on the left, lanyard on the right and chainsaw in the middle(back).I tried the leg thing a few years back and I think I had a habit of forgetting it-also got my rope hung up in it alot.

I switched to a leg scabbard a few years ago and never looked back. As others have said, it really helps to know exactly where it is even if I'm hanging upside-down or sideways.

But I agree it can be problematic. Sometimes I go toes-up and the saw falls out (rarely). More often, my rope gets looped around the handle or under the tip of the scabbard. A few times, the loop on the handle managed to pull the saw out of the scabbard.

But I could list similar negatives about the saddle scabbards. Overall, I prefer the leg placement.

Don't you worry about crossing over your line, bridge, and such with your saw when taking it out and back?

Mine goes on my right knee. My scabbard has heavy elastic straps that hold the top snug above my knee and a little loose below the knee to allow for articulation. The handle of the saw is right at finger tip position no matter what position I am hanging. When it's on my harness it gets all jumbled up with the rest of the gear on the right.

I keep mine on the left hip and draw it using my right hand. I've never nicked anything.

I tried a leg scabbard once and cut a new rope. Never again.

Thats how we roll...

Split second decision and never look back.
