Handsaw on leg vs. saddle

i cross draw too! like billy the kid.

the saw fell out way too much when it was on my leg. a lot of times I wouldnt even know it was gone until I needed it mosr.

I am right handed and run it on my left hip along with my lanyard, chainsaw on the right hip. "Break the wrist and walk away", now that's what I'm talkin about.

what exactly does that mean. sounds painful.

I just dis-advised my new climber from doing that (cross-draw) for the possibility of knicking a line, but now I'm thinking maybe i'll let him roll how he wants, and see how it goes.

Saddle. I like to move it up to the front of the saddle and clip it to my leg strap. That is if I'm using it frequently. Otherwise back on the hip out of the way of everything. For me on the leg is for competition. Adjust to fit the need. Sometimes I use two Saws just in case I drop one or I need a differsnt kind of saw blade. Some trees require fast cutting saws of large wood and small tooth saws for smaller cuts. I also Alternate with the Hand pruners and the Pole Pruners and Pole saw.

Why don't you take the whole truck up there with ya.

Now, the world don't move to the beat of just one drum,
What might be right for you, may not be right for some.
A man is born, he's a man of means.
Then along come two, they got nothing but their jeans.

But they got, Different Strokes.
It takes, Different Strokes.
It takes, Different Strokes to move the world.

Everybody's got a special kind of story
Everybody finds a way to shine,
It don't matter that you got not alot
So what,
They'll have theirs, and you'll have yours, and I'll have mine.
And together we'll be fine....

Because it takes, Different Strokes to move the world.
Yes it does.
It takes, Different Strokes to move the world.

I only "cross draw" that because its the way I've always done it. My first foreman set his harness up that way so I followed suit. It always worked for me, but to be honest I've never tried carrying it on the right.

Whatever works.

Just seeing what other climbers prefer. Please feel free to add your two cents. I personally climb with my saw on my leg, really dislike my handsaw on my saddle.

So, how do you attach the saw to your leg? Do you have one of those fancy saw pod thingymajjiggggys? Where can a guy find one of them?

Hey, post that in the Song Lyrics thread in the Tree Free Zone!

The sugoi is what i started with on my leg! Be warned though that its a long saw. So if you not tall it might be a little big for your leg. The leg scabbard from sherrill is my fav. Fits well, and has a little velcro strap to help hold the saw in better in case your rope catches it and such. Also the sugio has a little knob on the handle that likes to catch the rope. I've seen others shave it off, i've just learned to deal with it. But on a positive note, its the most aggressive hand saw i've ever used. It can really cut

Are you trying to tell me something Derrick?

Yeah I've tried one on but felt that it's ok. Maybe use Tom D's set up. The aggressive cut is one of the primary reasons I've been wanting to get this saw. I'll definitely watch out for the rope grab.

I should get it at the end of this week.

I love the sugoi i use that for removals and large deadwood, then the zubat with sherrill leg scabbard for pruning.

I used to carry one on my saddle (zubat) and one on my leg (sugoi). I used them for different size wood. When i switched saddles i never put the one back on my saddle. Now i have both in leg scabbards and just determine which to use depending on the situation. Normally i use the sugoi for removal and large deadwooding, and the zubat for light pruning.
