Great books

That's what I said! And it's the fifth edition. The big thick brown one haha! It was a crazy day at Mr. K's man. Picked up over $500 worth of tree books forrrrrrr 60 bucks dude. Seriously worth checking out from time to time if you have one or anything like it in your town. (y)

Just ordered 2 Michael Dirr books
-Dirrs Encyclopedia or Trees and Shrubs
-Manual of Woody Landscape Plants
Great reference material

I found books like these are great reference material for formal, controlled landscapes. With all the information in them, one still needs the dendrology texts which talk about plants native to a region.

One can not have too many books.Tree biology is very interesting to me as well. Suggestive reading there would be anything by,the man himself, the great Dr Alex Shigo and ,the Florida Gator,Dr Ed Gilman.

I look at my collection and find some need to be replaced with the newer editions. Dr. Gilman's pruning text has improved dramatically. Dr. Shigo's books can't be replaced. Ansi standards are reviewed and revised periodically, they need replaced. Because cultivars of plants are being bred for specific characteristics, the "Dirr manual" could be replaced periodically to include newer cultivars.

I just looked at Dirr's Encyclopedia of Trees and Shrubs. It's definitely ment to compliment his Manual of Woody Landscape Plants.
One for pictures, one for plant description. Good investment.
