Belt and suspenders - ratchet strap mod with 3/4" backup sling

If something ever went wrong with the ratchet strap and the backup sling was loaded, it would only have to hold for the duration of that rig. You would get that one down and then stop to fix or replace the strap, or come up with a new plan. So the fact that the hole in the frame isn't exactly "rope friendly" isn't a big deal to me. I might file down the edges to round them over a bit. And this sling would benefit from a chafe sleeve on the eye.

Install the backup sling after sliding the winch in. You can't swap the winch out for the bollard like this, but I don't use the bollard anyway...

I do think it will be perfectly good after rounding it off with a file and grinder. The hole is just there to cut down on weight. Certain piece of hardware you think would work well there?

May be a good idea to place a piece of 1/2'' thick rubber belting under the ratchet on preservations.
I have a 4'' wide length around somewhere. About 30'' long.... used a couple pieces off it over the years.
It's pretty tough stuff. Was a bitch to cut.

Share some pics.....or even start a thread.
Always wanted a mini goods.
Just a lil 2.5” bollard like a stein, with a small sailboat winch a little higher and slightly offset.
Maybe with a 2:1 anchor.

Prussic on the rigging line to the bollard and a second line on the winch.
No need for a self tailing winch as the bollard will act like a progress capture.

Either that or like the smart winch Japanese GRCS thing.

Either way it wouldn’t weigh half the weight as the GRCS and would be very portable.

I keep a mud on hand.

Guy I worked for some how got a some old rubber conveyor belt. We would use it as padding for hard pull redirects. He also bolted a few lengths together for a winching sled. Heavy as hell but worked great.

Horsestall mats could work well too, more squish.
