Geezers 2008

i dunno, i'm feeling a bit like a geezer-climber at 42 :).

not a geezer in any other sense yet, but climbing fast and hard sure costs me more than it used to..

count me in.

No Problem Sir Tree Rat.

Hey Kathy,

Maybe you should attach a tractor tire to your saddle to give the Geezers a chance like this other fellow tree buzzer did for training purposes.

No offense Geezers. I was just kidding.

something tells me there will be plenty of competition there.

hey, on another note..
scotty, a friend of mine is coaching this weekend in a huge rowing regatta in boston and i've been following it a little on the internet. read something about a 12 second handicap for every year in age over the base year? something like that. thought i'd mention it, since you're trying to figure out how to sort us all out. i guess that would vary depending on events maybe - like the oldest climber on the speed climb would have x seconds subtracted from his (well, i'm assuming) time and if he were old enough and everything worked out right he could win even if his time was the slowest? something like that. don't know how you'd determine the time per year to add. throwball needs no handicapping imo. just thinkin out loud here..

I think the brackets idea would be the most simplistic answer. I also think that there is going to be some great competition there, regardless.

I like the good start to this thread! We all have a long way to go, so let us engage in a lengthy and somewhat boring conversation in scoring variances.

gee at 40 i was still young
gee at 50 i was still young

and by the time that comp is

i will still be a young 49 plus tax, licenses, shipping and handling.

brackets would work for me, (not that i will complete) but that would put me in a class all my own. yahoo

I just knew that.

I am still trying to figure out a time line and how to make the venture to the great state of Florida. Also I was promised pink for shirts as well with EZ. I however am not even remotely close to the geezers yet. I'm still a Pup at 23 but it's all good.

Well look here we are on page three already this is great!
We started the Geezers at age 40 back in 2004 when most of the setup and judging teams were 40 to 45 or so with a couple of older gentlemen present. And the climbing field was low to mid 20's at the time.
The older I get the more I feel that 40 is still young but some day's............
So Tom that is how the age starts at 40'

What if I am 38, but have seen close to a hundred Grateful Dead shows! Does that qualify to compete?

[/ QUOTE ] Well almost. But you can come on down and help or cheer on your favorite Geezer.

And all of you who have said they were promised Pink shirts. Who promised pink? And last year that was for the competitor's. And seeing that you PUCLIMBER are 23 and Easy you are only 36 if my math is right(which it may not be)Are not qualified for pink. Un less we do pink for judges this year.........
Scotty

One last thing on this handicapping like both idea but if we do brackets we have to do more than one Master's true.
So far I like the way the do it rowing.
But I will go any way with this I will only be 45 at the time of the comp.
Be safe be happy Scotty

Wow! Been getting alot of response over the weekend. Scotty, you asked what color, I like purple, with maybe pink for the judges? That works for me. I just want a shirt that I can wear & that my little girls won't take.

I posted under rules about maybe having a handicap for the older geezers but haven't heard much. Thinking is, that someone in the early geezers age and still climbing more than less and say a mid geezer at say 48 to ? and not climbing as much but still climbing not having to worry so much about the speed events and still having a shot at the masters.... Lets here the ideas.
Be safe be happy Scotty

Could there be some sort of simple points system tied to a competitors age? Or would that make it needlessly complicated?

Either way, I want my boss to come down and have a good time, which I think would happen in any format.......

Yes sir that is what the thinking is all about. Complications Vince, can you fix it on your computer if we come up with a handicapped system?
Scotty

Not a problem...Just give me the basic ideas of what you want and I will make the numbers work. If not I can make them look appropriate.

Who is suppose to win again???

And with the ladies and men being equal in scoring. Scoring should not be an issue.

Scotty,

Those people under the age of 40 could be judges? Are all your judges under 40? Can a judge like me be over 40? If so, then I want flowers on judges shirts. Kindof a Miami thing.

The timing score issue is on the Speed climb events and Work Climb. The Masters, AR and Throwball are timed but only used in case of ties. I am leaning towards the way of the rowing, in that if we have brackets -- does each individual only compete within their bracket? -- how do we determain overall winners? Any other sport have handicaps for a speed type comp? Things to think about... Like are we at page 4 yet???
