Geezers 2008

What a time in Ky, can't wait for the GTCC lorax cup. Answer to your questions. Yes it is scored and hopefully you will bring the program. We run the AR and work climb on the 7 min. time frame. The FL is 25' to 30' and upper ascenders are allowed. Belayed speed is 40' or so and set up to have fun. Men and women run at the same times, we are all just climbers. First women was Lita Sciturro-Smith and I have talked with Kathy H. and she said if we handicaped her she wouldn't come and play.
I posted under rules about maybe having a handicap for the older geezers but haven't heard much. Thinking is, that someone in the early geezers age and still climbing more than less and say a mid geezer at say 48 to ? and not climbing as much but still climbing not having to worry so much about the speed events and still having a shot at the masters. And say like we do have older geezers here in sunny Fl who compete every year that would probably fall into that age group of ? to ? and could get maybe a couple more points, or we can keep it the way it is.
Lets here the ideas.
Be safe be happy Scotty

I was talking to my boss about that, and he is just over 50. He is concerned about getting blown out of the water by someone who just qualifies as a geezer (no harm meant by that). The last time I saw my boss climb, I could tell he was a damn good climber, but being out of the daily climbing loop in the last decade, I can see where his apprehension comes into play.

Could there be some sort of simple points system tied to a competitors age? Or would that make it needlessly complicated?

Either way, I want my boss to come down and have a good time, which I think would happen in any format.......

Yes sir that is what the thinking is all about. Complications Vince, can you fix it on your computer if we come up with a handicapped system?

I think that, like Kathy H. (although I have not yet had the pleasure of meeting) that you should “run what you brung”. No extra points.

However, it might be interesting for newby “TreeSlugs” like me, if the deduction points for slow speeds in timed events were reduced. That way there wouldn’t be as many “zero” scores, for events that you actually finished.

Folks might feel more "included" if they ended up w/ a more relative score instead of a "bagel".

As friend of mine is fond of saying "It's All Good!"
Having Fun.

Hey Greg
I hope you can make it down and have a blast with us. I know Rich had to go home and shovel his roof off when he left here last year.
And what Kathy was saying is she didn't want to be handicapped for being a woman. So this is just an age issue so yes no "bagels"
Scotty

I think is would be COOL for us non-production climbers to have an event - something EZ for us that have not climbed for years. I can (well maybe) do the throwline, maybe a switch and a throw in a tree event.

One request, please not pink this year, Scotty, I have a hard time wearing the shirt in public.
Though I must say the girls love it as a night shirt.

so pink for the judges and purple for the contestants?

or floirda colors - orange orange and lemon yellow or lime green and gator brown.

What does this mean?

"...a mid geezer at say 48..." That must make me worm food at 53...54 by GeezerRama time!

No handicaps but a mention about age brackets just like marathons or other races where the course can't change.

In some TCC there are brackets for rookie or first time competitors, most improved, best spirit.

No Tom not worm food yet, we have a climber who is 55? last year. Just trying to come up with a way to keep it fun and get some more competitors to come on down. I like the idea of age brackets also. So were do we make the breaks in age?
Are you going to be able to make it Tom?
Scotty
