Gear Bag

It's even nicer than it looks in the pic. It has an elastic net on top to hold climber's helmet, side pockets (throw ball cubes, etc), loops on the outside for 'biners, et al; nice construcion, very good shoulder straps.
I calculated: ~3520 cu. in.
Much bigger than that and I'm overloaded for a hike into the woods .............. but then, I'm a wimp.
Ciao !

Yo Greg that site has a backpack very close to that one. Under back packs. I thought you all wanted gear bags not a luch bag. The top part is a strech cover to fit your helmet like the army's back pack.

Well, I don't know about lunch, but I thought the poster was interested in the TB previously mentioned SEI backpack gear bag. >3200 cu.in. is a big lunch.

I'm sure everyone will be interested in other options
as well.

Ciao!

Yeah Greg that was the bag I was thinking of.
After reading and checking out the pics of the raven tarp ex
I am really leaning towards it because it would be great for hikes and travel, great storage options for our kind of gear too. I found a site that sells them for $200 but I'll sit on it for a couple of weeks. It's a chunk of change.

5000 cu.in. is a big bag. I would probably just fill it up, and be "over-loaded". However, the hip belt, etc. look excellent.
The web site indicated 3 different sizes; but said it wouldn't be available until this summer.

Where did you find it for $200 ?

Thanks, Greg

I actually have a 5000 cu.in. Weaver Gear bag, but don't use it to "hike" very far to a site, because the shoulder straps & "suspension" weren't very good.

The Raven's look like they would support the extra wieght extremely well ............ so I'm back to looking at the TARP EX.

Update on Raven TARP EX ………….

Apparently, Raven is changing the manufacturer, technical support, sales, etc.
Quote: “Rescue Response Gear is handling all our sales now.”

RRG stated that the “New Design” will have minimal changes; and will be mainly manufacturing issues. The new packs will not be available for 6 – 9 months.

For more details on the pack, see the pdf file at Raven:
http://www.ravenrescuepacks.com/media/pdf/Technical_Review_Magazine_Raven_Tarp_EX.pdf

The pack is listed as ~ 5000 cu. in. This is undoubtedly true, but that includes all the flaps, side pockets, etc.
Unfortunately, the main compartment is only 8” D X 24” H X 11” W. (2110 cu. in.)

The pack appears to be excellent, but is designed with lots of pockets, flaps, “envelops” for great organization; and “easy to find” access.

2100 cu. in. would be too small for me to stuff 2 rope bags (static & climbing), and a harness, etc.

Hope this is helpful.

Welcome to the Buzz ! Woody .... we use those hockey bags all the time at the ski area for lower extremities (traction iron).... they are cheap enough and hold enough , and a quality shoulder strap as well ...

Check out the Crag Station.

Its got 2500 cu which works for the way I move my gear. Heavy stuff, harness, hooks, and such in the Crag Station on my back. Relatively light, rope bags in hand.

I don't think I'd want one 5000 cu+ brick to lug around. Unless I had sherpa.... Volunteers?
