Gas prices

I just heard gas prices are going to rise above $5 a Gallon, not surprised. I wonder how that will affect people’s spending for 2012. Will you all adjust your prices to the rise in fuel price or will you wait to see how people are spending?

ya did any one else notice that the oil companys are the only ones not suffering from the economy?

And we're gonna stand around and take it like a bunch of frikkin cattle... we deserve it.

The banks and insurance companies are doing pretty well too.

I plan on running all my trucks on happy thoughts this year. But seriously its time to go bio diesel B-100. The oil companies have their hand up the Ford Motor companies azz so far that they wont waranty trucks that use anymore then b 5. Highly refined bio works just as well.

@marlinspiker--do you home brew? Where I buy BD, the price pretty much mirrors the #2 petrol prices and always costs more. For awhile during the last price spike they were competitive, but at times BD is as much as a dollar more per gallon.

Of course, every niche market is going to be high, and I keep buying BD so I don't have to support the petroleum companies. Maybe you weren't even suggesting it might be cheaper, but only that it's a better choice. I agree with that completely.

As for $5/gal--as a business owner, that scares me. As a resident of planet earth, I say that's still too cheap. Petroleum should be disincentivized to encourage more development of alternatives. Anyone notice how popular the new electric cars have become in the climate of expensive fuel (and they don't really cost much more than a new gasser)?

I'm tired of being at the mercy of oil companies and government. All I can do is complain and I can't come up with an economical solution (for myself) for increasing prics. I have nice theories, but they all take lots of money & extra time to implement...

Anyone notice that their vehicle registration went up instead of down?

Any business owner notice that their truck registration may have increased twofold? (mine did)

I heard that was the current administration's tactic to keep the fuel prices down (I can't prove that)...

But, now that the fuel prices have crept up (nice and slowly), do you think the registration prices will come back down?

I wouldn't count on it.

Is it just me or does it seem that this gas thing has become an issue again since our most recent election? I've often wondered what could be accomplished if "we the people" fought back. If we could get everyone together and stop buying fuel from just one of the big companies, say like EXXON for instance. It would not be long before they would have to start dropping their prices to gain business. Only thing is, as I think, is that people would have to resist buying from them until they really dropped their prices. Then the other companies would have to follow suit once it got to a certain point, thus a price war.

May be just wishful thinking, but I have thought about this for some time now.

I don't think everyone can ever get on that same page to fight back. We all need it in the end.

This does the trick for me, 100mpg. I have a hell of time towing the chipper though.

There was a boycott like that going on for awhile during the last price jump. I suppose prices did drop, but it didn't appear to be related to the boycott.

I stopped buying from exxon after they spent more time and energy trying to dodge flak from the Valdez spill than they did trying to clean it up. Driving to FW for xmas, I took a short detour to Carl's Corner for some B20 Bio-Willie. I was shocked to look up while pumping and see an Exxon sign had been added since I was there last. I don't know if I'll go back or not--I support Willie in supporting farmers and biodiesel, and I just like him anyway (not that I know him personally) but--it's exxon! sigh.

It makes me mad that diesel engines have a out dated stigma. Bottom line is they, last longer, are more powerful, & are more effecient (consume way less).

It bothers me that the U.S. won't allow super effecient small diesel engine vehicles in the U.S. Check out the Volkswagen UK site They offer a boat load of diesel cars. I'll never stop harping about the discontinued Volkswagen Lupo, which did 78 miles to the gallon. If there is a documentary made about vehicles, I'd like to see "Who Killed the Volkswagen Lupo?"

And why can't they do a Diesel Hybrid commuter car?

If consumption were less, doesn't that help the over all cause of being "less oil dependent?"

Hey Jamin: I've heard that they are getting closer to figuring out how to extract the oil from the shale there in CO and up in WY. From what I heard there is 3-5 times more oil there than in Saudi Arabia. They were figuring out how to heat the shale without damaging the water supply and were getting close to developing the technology.

I know if it works we would see oil back near $40 a barrel.

Have you heard anything on it?

The shale oil refining can only be developed with higher crude pricing. This is what drove the development of the oil sands in Alberta.

Maybe a coalition of professional associations of industries that use diesel could spearhead a lobby to increase availability of diesel and diesel cars.
