Fun Jobs.

After many years of tree work, work gets boring and sometimes irritating.

In order to stay interested in things, I find myself jumping at unusual jobs and also buying new devices and tools. Anything that is very different that can add excitement and interest for a while is valuable to me now-a-days.

Like the extremely brittle dead tree a few weeks ago, using the high-line. It was SO much fun.

Cameras and thinking about the shot, can make it fun too.

This morning, it was a small job, but was different and therefor fun: A very large Tulip Trunk was precariously balanced on a bridge abutment (from flood waters). As well as another smaller diameter log.

Kayakers and other water craft frequently use this area.

We were hired to safely get the logs down into the water; where they came from.

Set up long bull lines to a truck, to pull them off and also retrieve the lines.

It went very safe and very well.

a few pictures. most is on video.

set up caution tape, thank goodness i bought 300 lb tensile caution tape, or else it would have broken in the water when setting up.

Got a vid coming you said I guess. See helcam. Neat job but couldn't you just put a line on one end and pull the piece down and around (under bridge) at the same time and it would fall off? Prob. have to get a boat involved?

I can't say I see what you're doing there. In no way is that chain link fence going to support the weight of that trunk. What are you doing? Whatever I do see the fun in that one.

The job itself always looks different in pictures. You are right in it being a fun job.
Knowing that you posted this after the job, glad you made it out safely. The pictures are great.
Were the bull lines on the fence there to prevent you dropping them in the water and released when they were tied off?

Vid coming? Not likely anytime soon, most of my videos take me about 1 to 3 years before I get around to showing the footage.

This was a quick job, so not many video clips, maybe I could throw it together quick.

yeah, simple plan: pull the logs off of the bridge.

I decided to use a continuous line, did NOT want to tie to the logs, or else would need to untie from the logs while in the water.

So did a loop around them.

Did it in the middle of the two logs, because if i choose one side, might be more of a chance of a log flipping up on the way down and damaging railing fence above.

most of the time was spent, setting up the caution ribbons, then setting the bull lines.

distance was long from the logs to the road and truck. so used a 200 ft line of 7/8" bull line and a 160 ft line of 3/4" bull line.

two blocks on a tree at the road, for re-direct, so truck could run up the road.

yank the logs off, then quickly back truck up and untie one bowline in case logs wanted to wash down river.

truck pulled the lines from the logs and river.

no snags, no problems.

we got to see a nice big splash.

no one slipped and fell in the water.... darn.

Very good actree,

Loop runners with biners on the fence temporarily to hold bull lines. slip knot on bull lines so that when i was down at the logs i could tie the two lines together without dealing with the weight of the lines and the lines in the water.

yes, after I put the lines around the log and tied them together, they were unclipped from the loop runners.

So, yes, you pretty much got that.

B I N G O !

yes, Deer Creek meeting the Susquehanna River.

you come down here? Want a job?

jomoco,

I hesitate to say this, because I'm sure people with think I'm exagerating and putting on a show, but the truth is, I am tired of speedlines. They have become boring.

If I can do a "no control" speedline like in your photo, over a cool obstacle, that is still interesting and fast enough.

Oh gawd ...we dustin off that ole relic and pushing it out the door again.

Next thing it will be the vid of the td at the Zoo where you can actually see dinosaurs in some of the cages :-)
