Friction hitch poll

Do you mean XT Senor Bull? If so... the XT rocks, as close to hitch perfection as I've tried. But what does that have to do with Tautline? I have no idea but since we're throwing hitches out there XT it is. Unless there is yet another secret weapon aka X2

Helical is typically used by cavers for SRT ascent or for a situation where they need a hitch to hold load and then release easily when required, doesn't bind up like a Prusik does. Cavers don't use dynamic (DdRT) systems for ascent/descent.

Never met anyone who still climbs on a tautline, a blakes maybe and even then the only reason for a blakes is either a new climber or while using two tie in points.

The poll is 95% no tautline, so far. I figured here at TB the tautline would lose, but maybe not that heavily. In the area where I work in CT, near as I can tell, most guys use the tautline.

Any guesses as to what the poll results would be based on a nationwide response by every full time climber?

I'm guessing it would be 80% tautline, 20% new school hitches.

one guy out of 7 in my office use the tautline 14%. That is a very intresting question. i would bet its around that. Give it another 10 years and the tautline will be a myth of the past. Everyone who would use it full time would be retired.

I leanred on it and all of the other "old school" methods but since i have learned the ways of the light I'm all over the VT. I used to use a schwasish and the distel(sp?) but i had touble with them locking up on me.

Maybe one out of 60 guys that work at my company climb on a tautline. I would say two or three climb on a two under one over, not yopur traditional tauline. Everyone else eye aned eye or a select few on the blakes...
