Fellow buzzer has passed

I think the stone should be granite. Granite holds up better in the elements than marble. Just my opinion. I'm not a geologist just a treeologist. Does anybody agree or am I wrong.

My opinion and this will be the only time I will give regardless of how a tree fares if his tree was a redbud a redbud should be planted , a tender white won't do much better then a redbud anyway , that park is full of different tree types that have survived , maybe they would allow a split rail or a nice small area protecting both the tree and plaque , I highly doubt even the worst kid will damage a memorial tree or plaque , but there are always exceptions to the norm I guess

Let Me kmow if you want me to pick up the tree? I make regular runs to the growers Down rt77. In fact we have a rather large load of trees to be picked up for ajob. It would be no big deal for me to pick it up....if so message me and i can grab it next trip down.

I don't know if your replying to me or in general but I have no say on what or how this is going , I just thought if he enjoyed redbud then I think it would be proper to plant one , or 2 for that matter maybe the oak an a redbud .

I think we should let his wife pick it. I found out he liked redbuds but a white oak will stand the test of time.

Paul that would be great if you could pick it up but the when and where still hasn't been worked out. I would wait to pick it up until it was ready to go in. This way it only has to get loaded and unloaded once.

I'll donate $100.00 and help plant it. Once EXACT location and species are defined i would like to collect a soil sample and amend from there if needed.

Shoot me a message on the site where donations will be collected I am good for another 100/150 , if we all pony up that should afford a nice deal for him which I think he deserves , also participating in something for him will also I believe help me to get this outta my head . Thanks

I just got back from Rivelli Memorials. He knew Cameron too. His son knows Matt Cam's foreman. Small world. He recommended a stone with a slight bevel. It'll take about 15 days to produce. The quote for a granite stone was only 440 bucks. About half price of what it normally would be. Unfortunately I just started this new tree company a few weeks ago and only been working 1-3 days a week. That's only been enough to eat and buy fuel. If I were more established I would've pulled the trigger there and then. All we need to do is come up with a reasonable down payment. Once that is done he will expedite the process.

We all can go back forth as to which species the tree should be. Red Bud versus White Oak. Let's wait till someone finds out from his wife. That's just my opinion and the appropriate thing to do. This also can get out of control. So many people want to something and have the burning need to do something. Which is great. But I think we should elect 1 person to coordinate the event so there is no confusion. That way we'll get more done faster. So we can avoid 2 people putting their efforts doing the same task. As of now I know we a approval from Haddonfeild Shade Tree commission. We need to know if there is any restrictions on memorial stone. Once exact location is established. The soil test is a great idea. Then as far as ceremony is concerned. Do we bring in a speaker or one of us can say something inspiring. Then we can have an open mic. For anybody compelled to speak. This tree has to be planted perfectly. I helped Cam many years ago plant the pears along his driveway. He was very pitcular. He set a string line so the row was perfect. Then to top it off he broke out a level to make sure the trunks were straight. The level really didn't work out for this due how trees grow. The point to all that was. He tried to a perfect job on anything he worked on. So should we with this whole event that would be the best way to honor him.

A memorial tree should last a lifetime. A white oak will, a redbud will not. 50 years from now, his children won't care what species it is, just that it is there. My 2 cents on this particular bit.

They seem to hold up fine with time , just read an article about them lining the trail of tears , some of the redbud date back to mid to late 1830s , they hand pick seeds Annually to keep that line alive and thriving there , interesting I would have agreed until I read that.

Wow, interesting. I am going by personal experience... 99% of the Redbud I see in the average landscape are finicky, short-lived trees with genetically bad unions. Who knows what the nursery industry has done to them over the years? I know that is not the same for Q. alba. Sorry for the derail, just trying to help.

I will consider it an honour to make a donation towards a memorial tree for Cameron. Wondering if it might be possible to link up with someone working on this at Expo next week?

I am VERY WILLING to float the cost of the tree, get it and bring it to said Location. I can also find out from my "channels " from Chrisy If she has a preference to what specie...
Side note...If any one needs to communicate w me, message me here and ill message back my cell # or, like My treeawareness facebook page and message me there. Which ever is best!
Also, I am heading to expo as well and am happy to meet face to face..Thanks

In an early post someone asked of Cameron had a favorite quote and I know he always said "go big or go home".

He certainly did everything big.
