Felling Large Hollow Oak Split In Half

Sassypants Sassafras starred in Captain Huey and the Gooey Kablooie Part 7: The Jacuzzi Floozy if I recall correctly.

As long as he pretentioned that line and had the straps set while shaving the base I see no problem with this. His shaving obviously looked very precise. When a trees that hollow, that tall and wide you just need it to go one way and not the other. A perfect hinge is impossible and a textbook plan is not out there. He was confident that was the best way he could do it and he did. If you took 20 A cutters and put them up to fell that tree you would get 20 different ways to do it

1. I"m no expert but it appears that his under-cut has some serious bypass. A big problem in this scenario.

2. He tells us that there is about 10% of the tree remaining on the outer edge, then for some strange reason decides it would be a good idea to "shave" the bark. In doing so he also shaved off 5-7% of the remaining 10% of his viable hinge. Anyone with even minimal experience falling stovepipes would never think of doing something so fucking stupid. All this was done because his saw was too small? Speechless!

3. Take a close look at the vid. Watch the tagline on the backside of the tree as they begin to pull. Does that look like a well set and dressed tagline to you? Creeped up the tree 6 ft for fuck sakes!
Is it too much to ask that he learn to tie and set a proper running bowline before his next vid?

The reality is that this semi-instructional video was full of shoddy rigging and some extremely subpar cutting performed by an under schooled, under skilled person who didn't look very comfortable (scared) while at the stump. More make it up as you go bullshit being posted by so- called professionals that will get people hurt.

Yup, what Rico said. Sub par work. Elements of a decent plan, but lots of issues. I know all too well that most days it is better to be lucky than good. That is no excuse to not have a solid, plan a solid understanding of technical tree felling. This one was pretty much luck. One day it will run out. Worse yet another under-skilled cutter will take it as “skill” and get hurt or killed.

Every plan would be different in that instance. That’s a tricky tree to fell with so much on the line. Your relying on your rope and machine to do their job more than your cut even though it’s suppose to be the other way around

Looks like theres a new hack in town!!!

I want to personally thank Mr Sanchez for giving me something to do while I nurse a seriously jacked up shoulder.

So wait, was that a crappy face with a dutchman with too thick of a hinge, twice can't cut the backcut right, with poor communication and judgment equals a hack...oh, wait, you have add hitting the house.

Kenny,

Please if you are reading this, take the comments to heed. You lack a basic understanding of wood fiber, of compression and tension, the purpose of a face cut, back cut and hinge. Take what ever number of years you accredit yourself with in experience, divide by twelve. You have that many MONTHS experience. Your explanation, your rationale smacks of inexperience. I am not trying to break you down. I don’t want to argue. I want you to go home to those three children. I want the people who watch your youtube channel to do the same.

@rico Since your nursing a jacked shoulder, let’s start an intelligent conversation on a separate thread about the intricacies of a felling plan? I would love to compare and contrast. My travel schedule is about as whacked as I presume your shoulder is, but I will do my best!

I would love to do that sometime soon Tony. I have always felt that this forum needed a category dedicated to the cutting arts. There are plenty a lot of folks with tons of valuable tricks they have learned along the way that need to be shared. I would love to offer any useful info I have. I tend to use simple, old schoo,l tried and true methods so I don't know how intricate I'm gonna get. .

Funny because I dropped some comment on a few of his vids in the last 24 hours. Much to my surprise he has not responded. Fucking pussy
I have to amend my previous post. It appears that Kenny has blocked my comments from public view. He clearly has no interest in advancing as a treeman and is just looking to get his ego stroked, and get as many viewers and likes as possible. Fuck pride in your craft when you can have popularity. Much like Daniel Murphys vids I worry that some are gonna think Kenny knows what he is doing then go out and get themselves hurt. Kenny if your listening, fucking shame on you.

Simple is better. Yes there are many “tricks,” but they are just that, tricks. The concept of tree felling remains constant. Wood fiber, gravity, the laws of our physical universe do not change just becase we have a saw in our hands. Understand the basic concepts and you can apply all the tricks you want as long as they abide to the foundational principles.

I’ll ll give ‘er a go later today or tomorrow morning. I have some other writing projects to work on before.

Tricks are not just tricks. they are life-savers. IDK what you mean by that.

Kenny sucks at trees work, but is great in his own mind. What's new?

Full heartedly agree. Having a few ‘Tricks’ up your sleeve can turn a dangerous felling situation into a walk in the park.

Kenny is allowed to be an ignorant hack if he chooses. He is allowed to value his youtube like count more than his skillset. He's allowed to be a fucking coward who censors any negative comments aimed at him and his work. This is America after all. The fucking greatest nation on earth. Ever!!!!!

What worries me are the legions of dumbass Youtube viewers that could be hurt or maimed by following the example of HACKS like him.
