Really appreciate the general point of his words. I have a lot of disagreement and some agreement with his examples, but I get the sense that there is still far more that I have in common with him than differences.

What he said about guns at school during his time in high school was certainly true in my hometown.

Dad & friends would go dove hunting before school & the principal would be there when they arrived to see who all got what & to also inspect whomever’s new shotgun.

Sweet 16 Browning A-5s were the envied dove poker.

That was around 1973.

It's important to have this chat and change lots of things.

I'd like to see that article or body of research that shows that fps video games don't affect the decision-making of kids. My son is 10 and I don't have a console or TV in the house. When he gets pissed I kick him outside to work on the bike track.

How much meat is on a dove? I like fowl and all but...

2-3 is a meal with the vegetables.

Remember, Dove Season is in September around home, just before harvest time.

They be some fat dove if the locals did their planting part when the time was right.

It was once a big deal to not have a Dove Field to go to on Labor Day Weekend.

Folks hung out more & fellowshipped together.

Believe what you Believe but during that time, kids went to school together, they played sports together, went to church together, etc.., & there was more Community Unity.

Growing up I remember this era.

Many things are different in different regions, but I can relate to most of what the Kentucky Governor said.

I never had video games: my ass was at school or working.

I had class mates that were hard core into psp qrst box this & NES that.

I was feeding hay to the cows with a John Deere Tractor @ 8 & squirrel hunting the next year with my own .22 rimfire.

Judicious training by my father & turned loose on our property to curb the “Tree Rat” Population.

Don’t kill it unless you’re planning to eat it or it had plans on eating you.

Rabbit is pretty good also.

I’ve never been an inside dog.

Sunshine & to learn a little Manual Labor is what children need.

I’m not talking about slave Labor sweatshops, but learning how to do things like use a lawnmower & a weed whipper.

Dig a ditch.

Plant a garden.

And most importantly, Positive Mentoring.

Kids are our future, but they need to know that an honest living in the trades should be Respected.

I graduated high school with a Dual Seal Diploma, much to the dismay of our guidance counselors: they were trying to ram 4 year Academic Degrees Down the throat of every student who could pass an entrance exam.
( no Wilty, these weren’t men, but women guidance counselors.)

Not everyone is made for a University, but there were a lot of 20somethings that graduated in debt just to learn their degree hadn’t prepared them to go be successful or even self supporting.

A lot of my class mates had to go back to school & learn to do something else just to pay the bills.

We’ve got to change that: kids need to know they can provide for themselves & their future families in the Trades/Technical Fields.

We need doctors but we need electricians too.

And I hope I need an electrician way before I need a doctor.

Ahhh...nostalgia

I learned one of the most important things from my Dad when out hunting. He had his side by side shotgun for birds. I had the 22 for squirrels. At the neither Dad or I knew that the lesson was being taught or learned

A few weeks before Dad had finally quit smoking...cold turkey. We'd walk about a half block...easy walking in an oak savanna. Dad would stop andnlean against a tree sucking air like a mountaineer in the Death Zone. That's when I learned what smoking did. No smoking for me!

Thanks Dad

2 years, 1 month, & 11 days ago today I stopped after 12 years of 1- 1 1/2 packs a day.

Right now I could Smoke a Marlboro Menthol as long as you are tall.

Today Fox news found out that their condemning the Parkland victims, thru Laura Ingraham, has swift consequence to a growing number of businesses who disagree and posted responses to why they did.
Pretty powerful and it's just kids. The victims. Growing stronger the harder the right skim's scum from the bottom of their repertoire.
Blaming the victims.
#Neveragain proud.
So it's back to the kids, not debating the right's framing of it.

And the okie teachers are still walking off on monday. With total community support, even if it takes the rest of the school year!
The GOP-gov and congress here hustled all night to offer crumbs to avert but tough shit, thing's gonna change.
Now the state employees. Almost there.

Nevermind. I found it. Looks like they are underpaid compared to the national average. Let's see what happens.

Where I live it seems people who work 12 months a year for $40,000 are getting sick of paying people who work 8 months a year $60,000. Plus automatic raises. Plus Cadillac medical insurance. Plus paid personal days. Plus paid sick days that roll over. Plus paid snow days. Plus paid administrative leave when they commit what would be a fireable offense in the private sector. Plus lifetime pension without being required to save a dime.

I don't know. I'm just a tree guy. They have it pretty good compared to most people I know.

You don't know shit. Georgia?
They're fixing to walk off too and you have no idea why. Do you?
Arizona?
Republican states gave too much money to industry, protected them, and cut social services, school budgets, health care and water/air quality regulations.
Fox news took a slap in their faces, apologized, and lost revenue big time. They were doing what you are..trashing the victims.
Big mistake and desperate I might add, not to even consider how much only an asshole would do to victims.

Meh. It happens in democratic states too. Chicago had a big strike not too long ago.

Teachers are victims? Huh. I though the poor working bastards with no 401ks (much less lifetime pensions) paying their salaries were more sympathetic.

But I don't know shit.

Don’t go spewing your privilege round here: there’s shame to be issued out snowball!
