Edelrid Talon climbing gaff

I hesitated on velcro as well. After switching, I'll never go back - the comfort and ease of on off is more important than lasting for 10 years. I keep them clean, out of the sun, in their own bag. 2 years - No issues with the Velcro rolling or getting mucked up.

I'm still adverse to hooks though - I'll keep them in the box until I'm down to just the spar.

Hope no one was hurt. My partner had a gaff break off mid climb yrs ago. He dropped down the spar 10' or better before he caught him self. Ouch.

Literally just saw a picture of a set the broke mid climb on facebook.

Any more on this? Big/small climber? circumstance?

I don't want to waste your time though. I gave up on the Eidelrids when it became evident that the spikecender was in indefinite development. Still can't believe they brought it to market without a spikecender... I'm awaiting Kiwi Klimbers.

I'll see if I can find the post i was dickong around on my phone on the fly, might have a hard time digging it up. Didn't say much that i remember, but it did look like the shank just snapped off the shitty attachment to the upper pad. There were screws and plastic like it just cracked right off. Hard to tell for me as I've never used or seen them I person

Adds to the History of crap gear from Sherrilstuff.

Yours, or from the facebook post that @CutHighnLetFly saw?

That's disappointing. I'd like to see spikes progress a bit. Glad that Kiwi Klimbers and Antec are still looking strong. To be fair, though, I did hear of some wear problems with the first gen kk shin cups. Glad I'll be picking up gen 2.

Facebook posts.
Another complaint about strap wear .
How anyone can trust Sherrilltree TreeStuff is dumbfounding. Just sheeple
So many Failures putting people's lives at risk. Shame shame same shit as always

Edelrid s a different company than treestuff and Sherrill in case anyone reading the libel above is confused.

I try to read and learn from the forums almost every night after I’ve busted my ass for 8-12 hours. I’m getting really tired of reading this fucking bullshit. If you can’t add to the thread just shut the fuck up.
I apologize to anyone else who really wants to be helpful

We worked with edelrid on the features and design. Engineering and materials are their deal.

As always any customer not happy with an item they purchased can get a hold of us and we will take care of them!

What's the status of Edelrid spikes since the recall? Are they more durable now?
I'm not sold on the Edelrids just yet, but their offset shank design (not bump around ankle, but offset from arch to over the heel to align with leg bone better) seems logical. Any other spikes offer that feature?

I had a chance top try these spur a while back and DID NOT like them. I have been climbing in spurs since I was a kid using just about every brand imaginable and I dont recall ever climbing in a set of gaffs that felt as strange and squirrely as these. The geometry just seems off.. Plus the pad design seems rife for breakage. IMHO there are way too many proven, reliable kickass options out there to seriously consider dropping $600 on these.

Buck Titaniums or Bashlin's with caddy pads would be my first choice, but that just me. After that I would be looking at BuckAlloys with Buck Super Wraps, or DMM Gecko's. All are great spurs that are going to have minor subtle differences in function and comfort.
