Eating to stay warm

[ QUOTE ]
Wow, Cityclimber that's a pricey set of long johns. What would you say is the comfortable weather range with that one? I could see getting too hot with that one. I would definitely want that if it was colder than 20 degrees, I'd want that one.

Any where in the 20s and down it is nice, again though i looked for sales. I think i paid 220.00 for mine and this is the 3rd year wearing it. The bottom of the suit has zippers down the legs so it can be vented if you get too hot. With a thin pair of long johns underneath you would be comfortable going below zero as long as you stay moving.

Blinky,

That Wildy gear has to be old...WE hasn't been around for a LONG time!

Patagonia makes a fleece shirt with a hood, pit zips and best of all...long wristlets that cover your hands...thumbies we used to call them. Lowe Mountaineering made a shirt called a Ninja Jacket that had the same thumbies. MY favorite piece of gear that I own. LM was supposed to have another version on the market but I haven't seen one.

A cheap alternative is to make wristlets. The easiest way is to take the tops of some thick wool or synthetic socks, cut off the foot part at the bottom of the stretchy thick part. Then slip your hand into the anklet part, snip a slit for your thumb and let the cut part cover your wrists. This keeps your hands warm the same way that knee warmers keep your feet warm.

How does the sugar/salt addition to water keep you from urinating?

[/ QUOTE ]

the salt/sugar are added to the water, because you sweat out sodium. I get splitting headaches and my legs sieze up if i do not add a little salt/sugar to my water. When you sweat that much and heavily exert yourself, your body gets stripped of sodium (then you get massive headaches, cramping). I dont urinate much on those hot days, because yes, i am sweating it out. Some times i'm working so hard that i have a small river of sweat literally dripping off my face.

Patagoina has not made their hood fleece shirt in at least 3 years. The 2 I have do not have pit zips. They talked about a new one this year but I do not think they ever came out with it.

I also think the ninja shirt has not been made in years.

Sad ain't it? My gear bag is a Wildy duffle, so is my klettersack. My old Wildy long johns are still more comfortable than the new Patagonia stuff... Thermax I think they called it.

I guess now that I think about it, I'm old too.
