Dump trailer with platform for a mini....?

Did you see Islandedge's f550?

I wish I bought that.

Was on Treebay.

I put mine in the chip bed or service body (chip onsite or dump before loading for home.

I would like a mini platform in place of my man-cab. Too old of a truck to put that money into, though.

Jim Steele / Jim 454 had a roll down door, IIRC, on a mini and tool box between his dump body and cab. A sweet work shop.

Saw this picture here recently.
You snooze you loose!

Frank,

Slow and steady loading with very strong ramps, chocked tires, if needed, and truck in gear with parking brake.

I use good judgment. I don't let anyone else load it. Why would I trust general laborers?

You can raise your dump bed a bit to make the tail a bit lower. I never do. I definitely will load downhill if given the chance.

Avoid the crown of the road.

Shim your ramp foot if needed.

Slow, Smooth and Steady and you're in.

You climb and rig trees for a living, you can load the truck. For a bit over a $1000, you own ramps that will also bridge gaps, perhaps offload the mini above a rotten railroad tie retaining wall allowing access that is otherwise impossibly, as I did.

I would like a side-load with easy, flip-down ramps. But you can't go too high without some more serious engineering. I move the ramps between my 2 trucks, and can use them on a trailer. I don't regret buying them one bit.

If the mini-on chipper fits your niche, don't let me discourage you. If its about loading a truck, it a skilled manuever.

Everything Sean says is correct but I would add one item. Loading on ramps is a straight on straight off event... no turning. If the angle is wrong drive back off, straighten up and start over.
Make sure to use the tie off straps...
Try the ramps by putting them on a low wall or something to get the feel for the,... Low and slow !

Ok, I know, that was a couple!

Thanks Guys. I was going to start trying low and slow yesterday actually. However a call about a fallen tree took priority yesterday afternoon so hopefully I can do some testing today. I am also looking at loading it through the side door Mert. I think the box will need to go instead of just moved but I will measure that all out when that time comes. By clearing the box and side door area I could also load logs from 2 places. Hit the dump body to shift everything to the rear and keep going. We all know loading into a truck from the back only gets you so far before you have more room left than you can get wood to.

Sorry about the extra random pictures. I was having trouble finding this one of Avant crossloaded in 14 foot dump trailer.

I keep looking hard at that setup myself. I am trying to figure out what makes the most sense for me since tree work is not my primary money maker. Actually since getting the Toro I've had 3 jobs that weren't tree related at all.

Discount Ramps, 12ft folding, 54lbs each, $650 set.

Mert has a similar set but his are about 2 inch wider. Not sure where his came from.

My 12 footers are from 5 star fabrication. I had a hard time even looking them up when friends asked who made them. I got them second hand from brendon when I bought my Thomas.

So am I the only guy who has ever considered putting a chipper on a trailer with the mini skid platform in front of it? Seems that most of the time I want the mini is when I also want the chipper. 1 truck and trailer rolling to the job site is my thought here.

With a big enough chipper you can put the mini in the back. And one of the best parts of all is no ramps needed!D3F248D4-8D3C-404A-8419-6EF587471054.webp

I was just going to get one of these, place it over the limb keep moving towards the tip lol. That should work right? And there is no need for a big chip truck anymore.
