DMM throw hook.

The hook is onboard. I just used it on a massive willow prune, earned its keep immediately. Beyond being very helpful for moving around a high wide crown it was great for taking out deadwood (so much nicer to use than a pole saw), freeing hung branches below and grabbing the rigging rope. I put my Trango Cinch on the 10mm Sirius line that comes with the hook, worked great as a progress capture and made the hook functional as a kind of positioning lanyard in certain situations.

Also... it's very resistant to getting hung up but if for example you jam it on a branch wider than 90mm (max hook interior diameter) all you have to do is pull yourself out to where it's jammed, lanyard in, take it out or reposition it and ease yourself back on your lanyard or hook line.

There are many convenient ways to lower yourself back after taking out a redirect but if you already have the hook on your harness it's a great tool for that use especially with more extreme rope angles. Once you're back closer to vertical on your main rope just a shake and a pull brings the hook back.

Yeah, moss, I'll second what Tuebor said. Great idea. I thought for awhile that Trango was going to discontinue the Cinch, but I think TreeStuff still sells them. It would be a shame if they stopped making them, it's a great product.

AJ, does the trango cinch descend single line with the 10mm sirius?

Here's the link to the Cinch on TreeStuff.

First, I know I'm not AJ, but... In the specs it says it's rated for ropes down to 9.4mm. I don't think it says anything one way or the other about single line use. That info would probably be in the documentation that comes with the Cinch, which I don't have access to at the moment.

If I recall correctly, I was using my Cinch single line on a rope of about 10.5mm. Hopefully moss will chime in about his recent use of it, if he hasn't already.

Tim

P.S. @MikePowers321, I just did a search, and found the PDF link for the Cinch user manual. Here it is.

www.trango.com/Images/Tabs/User Guides/Cinch User Guide.pdf

I tried reading the document on my handheld computer for a minute, but it's tough; a little too small. At least now you can read for yourself and see what you think. They seem really cautious about taking the brake hand off of the rope, but too me, the Cinch always seemed really solid. I can't ever remember it slipping on me. I just stopped using it up top on my climbing rope because it does not tend like a Rope Wrench.

That is awesome, I'd forgotten about the Trango for 10mm, Moss you're a genius! Seriously, I've been using mine on my positioning lanyard, but now I use the BOLA, so that frees up my Cinch to run on the Hook. Apparently you got the entire kit, with the Sirius that comes with it? Looks like I'm gonna be placing another order this weekend! I just had my Rig n Wrench shipped to me yesterday! There goes S'more profit this month! Thanks for giving us the Heads Up on the Captain! Did you have any issues with the throw rope hocking at all? I'm curious if the new swivels that TS is selling will mate up to the hook? I'll have to ask the Crew on Monday if they are the same width as the loop that comes w/ The Captain. Thanks again!

That was my initial intent, Steve. I just didn't know what the extra weight of an 11.7mm rope would affect the performance of the DMM Hook. But, since I have the Trango that I purchased from you. Thanks BTW! Unfortunately it doesn't work on anything larger than 11mm, and I'm not buying another rope in the near future! Unless I must get the Hook w/10mm attached, I'd rather use one of the several dozen I already have! Any other suggestions would be great!

Looks as if the weight in the end can be removed and replaced with a heavier one, but no sign of a heavier one for sale. Maybe you could fill it with sand, but I think the weight needs to be concentrated at the end to get it to self-right.

Well, then you're dependent upon the weight of the rope to get it aloft. That's not a lot of end weight, I'm just gonna have to get it and experiment with a couple of different configurations. If I order it on Monday, I'll have it by Tuesday afternoon, so Wednesday will be a play day!

Ah. Just trying to maximize what I already have without bringing another line with me. I thought it said the
Nose weight was customizable.
According to DMM, one of the feature is "Customisable nose weighting", but nothing mentioned in the user manual or the spec sheet how to.

What do you think about using it on your climbing line tail and throwing the bdb on it for positioning or advancement.

I think it's heavy enough to do it, I would try it (with something besides the BB since I don't have it) except the lock nut that holds the shackle is "single use only", need to get the spec on that nut so l can try some different setups for the hook.
