The hook is onboard. I just used it on a massive willow prune, earned its keep immediately. Beyond being very helpful for moving around a high wide crown it was great for taking out deadwood (so much nicer to use than a pole saw), freeing hung branches below and grabbing the rigging rope. I put my Trango Cinch on the 10mm Sirius line that comes with the hook, worked great as a progress capture and made the hook functional as a kind of positioning lanyard in certain situations.
Also... it's very resistant to getting hung up but if for example you jam it on a branch wider than 90mm (max hook interior diameter) all you have to do is pull yourself out to where it's jammed, lanyard in, take it out or reposition it and ease yourself back on your lanyard or hook line.
There are many convenient ways to lower yourself back after taking out a redirect but if you already have the hook on your harness it's a great tool for that use especially with more extreme rope angles. Once you're back closer to vertical on your main rope just a shake and a pull brings the hook back.
