DMM throw hook.

After reading the entire thread re: TreeStuff/Sherriltree, things will be the same until they no longer are. I've spoken with lots of guys that get upgrades and extras in their orders, if for any reason, testing and outright generosity on their behalf.
We won't contaminate this thread, nonetheless! We've been fortunate and possibly blessed to have a company that understands as well as, hands plenty of great gear to the working stiffs, as a result.

I ordered one when they first came in and got only a hook in a box. Nothing else. Others posted pictures of a bag and literature. I got the hook and some packing paper.

No remorse from me either, and still happy with just the hook alone to permanently hang from my harness - it doesn't weigh that much, nor does it get in the way much.

I use it every now and then - glad I had it there today for a few poplar close together - saved me going down and up again. Particularly useful for installing slings/bracing. Apart from all that - it is fun, and who doesn't want fun in their life?

Yeah I new I shouldn't have mentioned my luck with the hook kit purchase ;-) Everything evens out in the long run. I've spent a ton of cash on gear over the years, good to get a break once in awhile.

No problems AJ, I'm happy to get it after such a long wait.

I have found a good spot to store on my harness so I carry it all the time. I have my climb line and two lanyards so I put a quickdraw dogbone on the Hook's shackle, no need for a separate rope.

If you misjudged the diameter of a branch and it was too large and your Hook got stuck, would it be considered side loading if you climbed the rope to retrieve it? Only the two sides are touching the branch.

Depends on the scenario, the intended use is horizontal or more or less horizontal movement. If the hook becomes stuck and you judge the anchor secure just pull yourself over, lanyard in and unhook. If you're talking about advancing vertically with the hook, yer not supposed to be doing that ;-)

Ok, here's another approach, the hook is stuck because the limb is too wide, is it sideloading? I don't think so.

Edit: thinking about it further depends on the orientation when it's stuck. Basically I never want everything on the hook without back up so I'm not overly concerned about the scenario.

It seems to me that the load would try to force the hook open, possibly weakening it instead of traveling down the spine when used on a proper size branch.

Haha, that's good. How about moving from spruce to spruce? Probably still shitee.

Ha - That's sort of what I meant... But yeah - it also catches on branch easier if you have it hanging from your saddle (when you don't want it to).

We've got this seemingly never-ending job for this guy who probably has homes in a few different countries - great you might say - though I've got to climb so many of them, and they are in a terrible state.

Hard to isolate a limb while throwing (even worse - downward sloping limbs) - usually it just bounces off the bushy needles; get so sick of failed throws - I end up just descending low enough to attempt some sort of swing (the old way).
