Days in Maine

THAT is divine, must’ve been a pretty big lobster. Claw meat is soooo good. Give me a cold water Atlantic lobster any day over one of those weird warm water bugs with nothing but a tail to eat.

Well my ancestors go back to the revolutionary war period here on the same land, but I only spent summers here growing up…so somewhere in between (Though one could argue that the only “true” Mainers have roots going back thousands of years)
I think that you qualify !
I have a good friend w/ property directly on the Damarescotta River. I've met lots of very educated Mainers (engineers, lawyers, etc) who prefer to just stay in Maine, rather than move for "professional reasons." e.g. working as carpenters, woodworkers, crafts, etc.
Great State . .. . . . except for the black fly season.

We’re close to Damariscotta Greg and the oyster game there has gotten impressively good over the past 10 yrs. Bunch of farms and variety of sizes and flavors to choose from. Beautiful spot to visit your friends.

My friend lives in Walpole, ME (just down river from Damariscotta village). She has ~600 ft of river front-age w/ an inlet that oyster-men frequent often. (completely legal)
The house is at least 200 yds from the shore (required by zoning).
The next-door neighbor owns an island in the river; assessable at low tide.

I have not “oystered”, but have collected, & cooked, lots of mussels from shore rocks.

She has a one-person scull, which I’ve used in the river. Lots of seals swimming around ! ! !
[I was once told that the Damariscotta it is the longest salt-water river in America; i.e. tidal.]

When you drive up I-95 and cross the state line there is a sign that says .'Entering Maine' and 'Maine- The Way Life Should Be.'

And you think to yourself 'that is a kinda corny statement' but then, after spending about 24 hours in state, you think 'wow, I get it, that really is a good call.'

There is a distinct vibe in Maine
