If you could order a custom saddle/harness would you?

How much would you expect the whole thing to cost?

What kind of options would you like to see?

Any other thoughts?

I think I would.

Id expect a one off piece to cost 1000usd or less

Id like to be able to choose the materials it was made of. Ive seen that buckingham makes a stiff leg strap, that'd be cool. Choice of colors would be cool too. Being able to choose number and placement of gear straps Would be cool. but then the permanence may kinda suck. Im constantly changing my style up and my gear needs change as well

After reading Arbor Solutions post it made me think. If it didn't turn out like you figured then what? Maybe choose from a few different basic belts and add on from there. Like leg straps, tool loops, and bridge would be interchangeable. The belt would be fitted according to body type, fat, tall, long legs, long torso, etc... Should be some reading to determine how to decide what would hold you in position best. Then order some legs straps and your bridge and whatnots try them out and if they don't work for you send them back. There could be a discounted section for used parts sold slightly cheaper. Of course the bridges would have to be new. But most climbers would know which bridge they like by the time they purchased a custom saddle.

The customized or at least a semi-customized saddle is what Don Blair did back in the 80's with his Blair, Eucman, Simpson lines of saddles. I think Don was the first to offer the wide back waist belt and the modular construction allowed for replacement of worn parts rather than chucking the whole saddle. I actually had him build me a Blair that was fit to me and was my favorite saddle of all the ones I have owned. I still have it, but it has been out of service for 10 years now. Don really began the saddle revolution I think, and all the newer designed saddles are custom in some respect. A whole lot has happened in 20-25 years for sure.

I would order a custom saddle/harness.

$600 to $1000 depending on options. (I don’t need lots of bells and whistles just specific functional options.)

Large steel D-rings, adjustable leg straps with quick release buckles, wide padded waist belt, H or Y suspenders, all synthetic (leather grows mold), multiple strong tool attachment points, replaceable bridge.

My previous several saddles have been Blair Eucman to start and then I added parts on to customize it to my wants. Veered away from that to get away from leather by ordering a Ergo through TreeStuff and asking Luke to have the factory do some custom alterations. In my mind a customizable saddle may well give me just what I want. Then I would likely continue to order more of the same, or same with slight modifications.

Tom, Treeflex looks like it might be a pretty nice saddle. If the info. I just saw on a Bailey’s page is correct you might want to chase down and buy some extra copies of it now.

I have a treeflex, with some mods.

Its a great base to turn into something you like.

My one thing I thought would be a good one, is having a decent belt with eyelets for the waist strap in leather, to stop any movement when having a heavy chainsaw attached at the back loop.

I would make a saddle with more size options (specifically smaller). Also having a few different rise lengths or making the rise adjustable would help make for a more comfortable experience for more people.

What i'm thinking about is the belt and on the video you have a rope going around the waist to rings.

My thought is to have the rear loop attached to rope thats going all the way to the climbers attachment point - that way the heavy chainsaw is being held by the climbing rope, not by your belt loop - and a good way to stop showing off your pants :)

Every saddle with an attachment point has a place to hang a saw with the weight on the rope. What do you mean by "showing off your pants"? I'm proud of my pants.

What I mean is that the webbing straps or buckle are holding the waistband on the harness, so when a saw is attached the pressure is there first before the rope, I want to work how to cancel out the pressure on the harness so that it only on the rope.

I always find that extra wieght puts the waistband under stress and loosens the buckle and/or stretches the harness (unless it was a weaver saddle)

Even worse when you have 2 saws attached.

1 Why on earth would you ever have two chainsaws hanging from your saddle?

2 If you have a saddle with a bridge and ring(or something similar for attachment) the load is on the ring and climbing line, hence the reason for putting the saw there. If you need pics to visualize, I'll provide.

Because there are some more small cuts to make with a 16 in. saw after I dump some big ones with a 372 and before I reach out and clear the far side with the HT131 Pole saw.
