Cool tree to clean up.

The tree in the picture is at Veterans Memorial Park in the center of Marshfield, Mass.
This tree is the focal point of the center of town. It is in a park that honors all our Veterans annually.
We were called in to clean her up. There was a good ammount of hangers that needed to be removed and proper pruning cuts required. Too many to do any pruning beyond what was needed.
Without sounding corny, this is the one tree I always wanted to work on and took the most pride in doing so.
The picture attached is pretty cool in my opinion.

Not corny at all. I had the same feeling about a white oak I did a week or so ago. We pulled up to the property and I just smiled. It was like the tree telepathically sent a message to the home owner which came back to me through the company.

That tree looked like a fun climb.

@Tr33, it was wild to be the one to work on her. We had more people beeping and giving us the thumbs up throughout the entire climb. I (unfortunately) was on the ground working with my groundsman, coaching him on his job. Our climber loved the climb. Good one fo him to practice his working climb and footlock for a upcoming comp.
She is a 80' Oak with a 50-60' spread.

Before and almost but not completely after. There was a good ammount of hangers, deadwood and finish cuts needed.

Looks like a sweet climb. Definitely one of those great trees to be the one called upon to clean up.

To answer your question Brandon, it was a 120' red oak in Wychwood Park behind Marshall McLuhan's house in Dec of 2005. What made it a great climb was it's situation on the edge of the old indian shoreline overlooking the whole of downtown Toronto and the Lake. The sky was cloudy but the sun broke through in a multitude of spots creating a very dramatic effect on the lake and city.

actree- Let me be the first veteran to thank you on the buzz. I am a reservist just getting back in the swing of things after a long time being gone. I am glad that you took pride in just doing the job (whether you got to climb or not). I am pretty young (a whopping 28) but I really do like seeing when people can kind of feel some pride on the inside for what they do. You didn't have to march in a parade, or make a huge donation to the VA, or volunteer somewhere. You did your job. And you felt proud to do it. Thank you.

It is the small things like that that make me feel good about taking months off of doing what I love (tree work) to go out and do what Uncle Sam says I need to do. I am sure its a biased opinion because I enjoy working with trees, but thank you for caring enough to think that cleaning up a tree in a veteran's park makes a difference. It most certainly does to some people, me included.

Keep the spirit alive. We all make a difference in one way or another.

Great pic with the flag by the way.

@surfarmer1, good idea. We are in the process of creating our web site.

TB is such a cool site. I will say it again, we work in the best profession there is. The way people share their experience and advice here is unreal. As for the creators of TB, you have done a great thing for our profession. It is important to have a positive in such a stressful business.

The result of pruning this tree has been overwhelming, we have received calls from people thanking us for a good job. The local paper wants to do a write up about our company. But, the coolest reward was walking into a local coffee shop and a group of veterans (8 of them) expressing gratitude for taking care of the place they all hold dear to their hearts.

It is nice to know what we do (as a group) is recognized and appreciated by some.

I wanna see some pics of you with a nice high TIP and workin the ends of those leaders next time Actree!
