Cool tree to clean up.

What's with the pole saw? :-p

Pin oak? Not so bad as long as you're not the first poor sap to prune it! Im relishing nice prune jobs after spending the past 6 months doing storm damage!

@jeffl, no saw blade on it. There was to ton of hangers and a few got hung up. The pole with a hook was a good/safe way to free them up with the direction of the lowering line. Never the less, we will use a pole saw in a canopy prune.
The last prune this tree had was about 15 years ago. I am happy they recognized the need and had us start with some needed clean up and corrective prune cuts.
Storm work takes it toll on me too. There is nothing like a customer saying "the tree is on its side so the hard work is over." There is a voice inside me saying "give them the saw and watch a spring loaded limb knock his teeth out while the tree roles on him." But, that would be slightly unprofessional.

Good idea on the pole hook. I'm so sick of pulling oak hangers apart. Gotta cut em into a thousand little pieces to release the "velcro".

@jeffl, We have a 80' Pine to remove in a historical graveyard in town. There are gravestones from the late 1600's at the base. We have to lower every single limb and walk them out before they touch the ground. I hope there is no voodoo in this tree. Look for us in the future on a reality ghosthunter show.

Now there's a teachable moment that I love. I explain to a client all the unknown hidden dangers and dynamics that exist now that the tree is on it's side. Usually it is met with an ah hah moment and the comment that they never thought of it that way. The cost of the job then becomes apparent.

@treehumper, I can't think of one customer with a downed tree that hasn't used the sales pitch to me that the hard work is over. I lost a job that stands out. A customer went with a uninsured friend (of his) that had a pick up truck and saw. The guy backed his truck into to canopy of the fallen tree to limit his walk, started cutting the under side first. A loaded limb snapped and cut his eye (no PPE none the less) and the tree rolled onto his beautiful F-350. Needless to say, they are no longer friends and have a pissing match insurance battle.
The teachable moment you love isn't taught to all the students.

Oh yeah, some have to live the lesson before they get it.

Thanks for the story though, I'll add to the anecdotes I use to illuminate my point with the next customer!
