Growth in income inequality defines post 60s US. How is it acceptable that more income is generated for the top quintile of Americans at the real expense of the lower quintiles? Jobs go offshore so the shareholders can reap larger dividends and executives larger salaries and bonuses. All the while cutting hours and pay of those at the front lines of the company. Post WWII did see a decline in income inequality.

Let's see, a family with a combined income of $260K paying $60K in taxes leaves them a paltry net of $200K. Hmmmmm that's tough to live on. Um sorry, doesn't fly. Is it justified that in order to pay those salaries and bonuses those in the blue collar jobs aren't provided a sufficient salary to cover basic costs? They are not all drug/alcohol users pissing their money away on trivial stuff.

I have no illusions that the president elect or the congress will be able to do anything that will alter that any time soon.

In the meantime I get up go to work and strive to achieve financial independence so I can reach the enviable position of paying too much taxes. Or I can keep the money and invest it in greater security measures to keep the riff raff out......

Certainly the European colonization of the New World changed the order of both the New and Old World. By no means do I care to get into a discussion of the evilness of the Old Worlders.

On the other hand, there was certainly plenty of strife, warfare and killing going on in the New World before the Old Worlders showed up. The image of the Native Americans as pastoral just doesn't stand up.

And...I am sure not defending the poor treatment of indigenous people that has taken place historically and continues to the present times.

It didn't take a war of the cultures or clashes between civilizations...but it needed a failure of the way things are to ignite this and I feel it's now starting to burn...a good burn, a beneficial one.

So, I think I understand that all white people should pick up and leave, so the Native Americans can have their land back? My family and I are not personally responsible for taking anything away from anyone, not American Indians, not slaves, not anyone. Although I can see how things have happened in the past that were not right, not fair, not humane, etc., all I can do now is use my voice to not let that happen again. Part of that voice is to not be a racist, a bigot, a sexist, or to judge others. Part of that voice is to respect all my brothers and sisters who are Americans. Part of that voice is to choose the people that help me based on attitude and ability, not color, race, religion, etc. Part of my voice is to be upset when my hard-earned money is taken from me and given to the droves of lazy people who take advantage of the system meant to help those who can't help themselves.
Axenot--the time and negative energy you spend waiting for anyone to make a formal apology that means NOTHING could be used for so many other things that can really make a difference.
