Sorry a bit late to the party here - we've always used brake bars/ racks in aluminum or steel for long descents, esp. with heavy packs, alpine and caving as well. The racks offered better heat dissipation than smaller area/ point contact friction devices like Shunts/ ATC etc. gear for normal shorter descending. Maybe worth a try? I remember a bunch of us looking nervously first couple of climbs on 8.8 mm spaghetti dry dynamic ropes when they first came out. My two cents for tonight. Cheers.

The fellow on Facebook has a DMM swivel on his Bulldog Bone. I use the RE nano swivel as an option on the Bones I produce. ( the gold color in the picture is actually the biner)

Blast from the past. This is the first purchaser (Mac Swan) of the Bulldog Bone. It came with 3 different interchangeable size bollards and no rubber nubs. It also had a sheave with a quick release axle that you could install after installing the rope onto the bottom arm, which was deemed unnecessary by many.

Ok, I'm going to plug the Bulldog Bone : )
The Bone is about half the cost of some upstart multicenders, and about half a pound lighter.
It does SRT and MRT, midline. It is adjustable, and has an optional swivel integral to the device.
all parts are replaceable, and while everything gets gummed up by sap, by some testimonials,
it does better than many mechanicals, sap, wet, or dry.

Bdb is an incredible tool. Been climbing exclusively on one for over 10 years. Tried rw, rr, unicender, akimbo. Bulldog is the one for me. In my ideal world there would be more tools like this, each one hand made by the designer himself. Purchase directly from the maker, no bs. Every time I put it on the rope it does just what I need.
 
I like it a lot, had it about a year. I tired the original fixed bollards, the adjustable and now the elongated bollard. All were good, elongated might be best. Although I did get a new rope recently that is smaller than my old. It creeps down a bit. I'm hoping the rope will fuzz up or I lose some weight. Or both!
