Compact Bulldog Bone

Size comparison to the 1" dmm spacer. The one on the far left is just something I'm messing with. I wonder what the groove in th dmm spacer will do when operating the bone. Just have to find the right size spacer to fit in the dmm spacer before I can test it. Any thoughts?

Being a larger inner diameter, I suspect the rope friction may overcome the axle friction and it may spin during descent. You may also find that it's large for ascent and may not tend well. I don't know. Keep us posted. Maybe you can find some PVC or some other type of tubing that fits just right...

There's bound to be a bronze bushing that will fit the ID of the DMM spacer that has the ID necessary to fit the Bones pin. Check TSC or Northern Tool.

MSC, McMaster-Carr, Grainger. You can look at drill guides or liners also, headless of course. Stay away from die bushings as they will be sharp and have a tapered and or relieved id. I am assuming this bushing is making rope contact (didn't get a bulldog yet), if so stay away from any of the impregnated bronze bushing. The graphite or oil used will make a mess of your rope and will bleed all over when the friction heats up.

The purpose of this bushing would be to fit in a DMM spacer to effectively reduce it inner diameter so that it fit over a pin in the Bone and act as a bollard for smaller lines (such as 11mm).

Thanks guys and especially thank you GORDON! Can't wait for it to get here! As far as tending goes I used to always use an over the shoulder tether with the wrench but I was finally lucky enough to get a harness from Paul D. Tough to go back to the bungee after using Paul's awesome chest harness. But.... like someone mentioned, tough with tons of layers on in cold climates. I use 11mm Kernmaster and Escalator and 11.7 Yale 24 strands. Sounds like the 5/8 bollard will be great on the thicker rope. I have not previously used a swivel but will get one coming from Luke asap. It seemed form all your comments everyone agrees the large RE is the way to go. And yes 2 SRT systems. I hardly ever climb DdRT anymore except for crane work. I just recently added a second bridge to my saddle, iv've been experimenting with this and don't know quite where i'm at with it yet. Good and bad I guess. I guess I will go straight to a "soft link" connection to tend, what are your all's favorite for this? Thanks again for the recap of all good info guys! Tough to read back all the way through a 40 plus page thread!!! -BEN

My new arborwear belt/sash with biner right to the hole on the bdb. Seems to be working better than my loop chest harness and I get better stride with my haas too.

I feel that a swivel on the bridge opens up the most options. Just put the stock Bone on a biner and put the biner on the swivel. Only after operating for a while will it really make sense. It's not absolutely required, but it helps, especially in DSRT. I'm still working on my set up, and I'll surely post more ASAP.

The demo mini Bone is already in route to Oceans. Incidentally it has two possible attach points at the lower cantilever arm attach point.

bwktreeserv...just to put it all in one place, here's my adjustable 8 loop harness with a webbing slider on the back cross...
I like the harness. It's a bit like Paul D's, but probably easier to build with things folks already have. Adjustable, too. Nice.

I've got to be honest though, I'm not sold on having a mini biner (or really anything) knocking around on the back of the Bone. I'd just as soon want the connector on my chest harness with a simple loop on the Bone. But that's more in my head than from experience. It may be just fine.

I'm using the same setup as gmctr, with two arbor wear belts connected ,with mini quick link on back , soft link bungee for tending on bone , gave just enough to keep it smooth and comfy. Here's a pic of chest harness peeking out. I'm still messing with final connection ,but this one seems ok. I think I'm going to put a swivel boat snap in place of the Ange S and see what happens.14188132301980.webp
