Compact Bulldog Bone

hey paul glad your back around, i honestly started really pushing myself with SRT after some of the stuff youve said about taking swings and not double-crotching in ddrt in response to things ive posted or asked. you probably wouldnt remember the statements, but for some reason they did a lot for me.

and my wife told me once she thinks you picture looks like an older version of me. hope you and the families move is smooth.

Hey CutHigh....such kind words...I am glad that my input has helped you however small...getting back to Barbados is what my family wants and am so looking forward to it at 48 change is just not coming easy for me...I like the laid back tropics with it's beautiful comforting sea breezes and sunsets......lol

Climbed a big wide elm today on the BDB. Almost no ideal TIP so I used multiple small tops. I also overdid it a little because some of these limbs appeared to be dying. Anyway, there was like 2 feet of bounce in the line, and I found that the BDB does not like the line with constant two way tension (for lack of a better term). It just dropped me a foot every time I released it, with almost no sensitivity. I was using Kernmaster. Anyone else have this experience?

Tom i know what your saying. this is a assumption based off my experience with only one mechanical hitch, the bone, but i think its harder to operate mech. hitches with the "two way tension" you've described. if i understand what your talking about, once you try to descend a little, it wants to let the line run right through right? i think its easier to control the line in that scenario when running through a real hitch.
ive had good luck with setting static redirects in a spot where ill have to go back up to anyway. i honestly dont mind just going back up to redirects anyway because its so easier to go back up/around using SRT, although i know and understand that some people simply are not trying to do that at all.

I was cutting DED samples, and had to get to very specific spots, so there weren't any good spots for a static redirect. I've got my haas etc. dialed in well, so going up ain't no thang!

It would be nice to test this situation with a different more static rope like Cougar. A UK climber has commented that he prefers both the self tailing and release of the Bone on his Cougar, rather than the Kernmaster.

We just had a discussion regarding the RR on Imori in another thread recently. Same issue...when a rope can store energy (elongate), that energy wants to escape when you release the mech. hitch. This results in that sudden bounce. It seems that Tachyon's ability to stay round minimizes this effect despite its elongation.

I would recommend using a static line for the anchor side and something like Tachyon for the working side. Just connect the two lines and set the connection near the TIP for the least elongation and nice predictable performance of the working side. IE, if you were in a 60' tree, ideally you would have 120' of anchor line and say 75' of working line. It makes for a nice system that is still lowerable in most cases.

I have never experienced the condition you guys are talking about (thankfully). Maybe it's because I always have my extra hand on the rope and break the hitch expecting some slippage. Or maybe it's because I usally climb on Vortex.

HA! Personally I never had a real issue with bounce until I tried tach on SRT. I'm running DRT on anything but pines recently and when I split my weight it's not so bad, but on a single line I'm digging cougar on the work end. My anchor leg is always arbormaster......I've got a surplus and I don't notice any bounce, so win/win.

The HA was in reference to the attempted island accent.....one of these days I'll be good at using tapatalk.

No bone here, but as you all know I am in the runner camp....there is no way in rome of me going in Tom's scenario with kernmaster as my choice of rope...I climb a lot of trees in Tom's scenario in Barbados, the reason I moved away from kernmaster was for just this pop release action....slide..eoooo.eooo....awful feeling....change rope to calamine, cougar, aztec, arrowfrog...and this ceases to happen...nice clean releases...on the bone I have no experience with these ropes or device...but on a runner...dem ropes is da bomb...lol
