Compact Bulldog Bone

That's twice now that Mac has gotten Northern Cal and North Cakilaki mixed up. :) Pretty big difference. Though Asheville is sorta Northern Cali-like...in a way. More so than the rest of North Carolina.

I think the extreme winter in Vermont is really getting to him. Mac, why dont you take a trip to North Cali or North Cackilacki real soon?

It took about 10 minutes to sew up. It is made with 1/2" nylon web folded over the same size D ring. It is held on by an 1/8" steel shaft. It doesn't need to be very strong as all it needs to do is tend slack.
So what keeps the 1/8" steel shaft in place? I like the looks of this and of course always looking for something I can sew....

I just drilled straight through and then capped the outside edge of the holes with epoxy. I also glued the pin to the nylon web so it could not slip out even without the epoxy. If I were to do it over I would just drill counter sunk holes from the inside. Not all the way through so the pin would be held in place like a watch bands pin.

Can you stop being such a genius? :)
You know, I was wondering if a roll pin would help maintain stability between the two upper arms. Perhaps just a tight press fit on the left side (just snug on the right) so it can still come apart easily for Bollard swap?

I could also see drilling a hole through both arms and tapping only one side with the same result above.

Lots of ways to get this done. If Yoyoman was thinking of making a saleable accessory, just bonding the steel pin to the webbing would work and keep it simple for straight through drilling.

Nope, Cali.
Now that I think of it, the first time I had crispin was in charlotte a few years ago. I must have just assumed it was local.

Closest I'm getting to vacation is fids and fibers this weekend. I am rather excited though. So's my wife, I annoy thee BEJEEZUS out of her when I'm at home all the time. And the last couple weeks have been far to cold for working.

Dave, yours is the tending mod I have liked the most, but have you encountered issues with it not being a bungee?

You can buy elastic strap at a Fabric store that's also easy to sew and would combine both ideas. It doesn't have a lot of stretch, compared to bungee cord, but it might be enough. Durability might be an issue, I know that UV makes it crunchy after awhile and it loses its stretch.. but, it's cheap so you could make up a bunch of spares. Of course, it would have to be fairly quick and easy to change them out. That is to say, probably wouldn't lend itself well to a permanent installation. Just a thought.

Rich, my pin from Gordon came with a small oversized head that I just tapped in with a hammer and pin punch. No fuss, no muss but I may have had the odd pin.

Clipping directly into the D-ring seems prudent (for those who do not have a D-ring, they can be obtained at Ace hardware and are a 7/8" D-ring). For what it is worth, the hole for the D-ring on all of these third batch Bones are purposely drilled so that a stock size 50 chain link pin can be pressed out of that size chainlink and then press fit perfectly on one side of the top arm at the current D-ring, if a strap is desired . It would be best in my mind to move away entirely from a loop style tether, use your own discretion.

if I was convinced I wanted a bungee attachment I would make a hybrid swing dude/yoyoman (SAKA) chest harness with the bungee incorporated into the shoulder straps.

I'm reluctant to go with the bungee because I like the way the tether holds me in a near vertical position and I think you would lose that with the bungee.

Well have fun Mac. I've wanted to do that since I started the buzz but babies got in the way. I'll make it happen some day. Done a good bit of home splicing to create a good foundation though.
