Did you bent the handle, indicating overload?
I'm not real sure how I bent the handle. It was the last 6-8" or so of the handle and bent sideways a few degrees. Possibly an overload, or possibly someone being rougher with it on a job site than they should have (dropped something on it)

In my mind, an overloaded handle would try to bend backwards. Or twist due to bending sideways being easier then once off axis bending backwards creating a twist.

I don't know for sure.

One of my 2 has a bend in the handle to the side.

Certainly someone else also has a bent handle and can weigh in how it's bent.

This is what my bent handle looked like, after cranking it up to 2000 lbf. It's torqued and twisted, kind of hard to see. Not as obvious as I figured it would be. I don't use the crappy hook that comes with the puller, I replace it with a steel crab. After overloading mine, it wouldn't release the line, I had to cut it.

Muggs what gives you the info that you had Masdam cranked up to 2k? If a lb measuring device, what rope was installed to allow that much force before slipping?

I've had them slip and had heard it was at 1200 or 1500 lbs.

I used a load cell. I had regular Samson pro-master in it. I actually didn't even notice that I had bent the handle. All I knew was that I couldn't crank it any further, and I couldn't release the line. I didn't notice the bent handle until later.

Wow...all you guys who take the time to video document things for us to be benefited by are phenomenal - thank you.

Time and effort, risk to your equipment, sometimes damage and costs - thanks.

(Almost positive I have a damaged Masdam with straight handle. Want the handle?)

I really appreciate the offer but I already replaced the bent one. But thank you very much

Upon re-skimming the info, I may have been misunderstanding @Jehinten talking about the bent handle being on the rope-puller, whereas I skimmed that @Jehinten mentioned not having used a rope-puller, unless I skimmed it wrong.
I think I introduced even more confusion! You asked about the bent handle in post #21. I was thinking Muggs mentioned the bent Maasdam handle earlier, but that was @Brando CalPankian that said he broke a Maasdam in post #20.

In OP, @Jehinten said "...After several years of use, my handle was slightly bent..."

Since you posted right after the broken Maasdam, I was just clarifying which device we were talking about....go figure, a thread drifted slightly off topic. I think it a worthwhile question for either device!

Just noticed they're currently on sale in the discount bin at Arbsession:

Great device at a great price.
