CMI Foot Ascender

So I've got a left foot ascender that works fine; its only about 6 months old, and I use it less than once a week. the only thing is that the kevlar webbing that goes under your foot is 2/3 torn where it attaches to the ascender. I will post some pics tomorrow or monday. hopefully. if I can remember.

Does anyone who can sew some new nylon webbing on want to buy it? or does anyone have suggestions on what I should do? is this something I should talk to cmi about?

Ps- sorry Tom if this belongs in another forum :/

I think petzl has replacement part numbers for the strap on the pantin. I'm sure it's worth a call to cmi. You could always hand sew your own with the appropriate webbing and thread too. It's not life support stuff. I sewed my pantin strap and it would take someone way fatter than me to cause any problems with it. ;)

I have the CMI ascenders also and have to say I'm not particularly happy about the strapping. I haven't had to replace it yet, but the toothed tensioner really tears up the strap. Be nice if they came out with a retrofit to a friction tensioner like the pantin. Try checking with a local shoe repair shop and if you are lucky enough be be in Amish country, check with a harness shop. hey may be able to help.

My first foot ascender was a cmi and the strap broke half way up the climb. Fortunately for me the company I worked for just replaced it for me. It did seem like a waste though seeing the strapless ascender sitting in a scrap box. Good luck and if you figure something out be sure to keep us posted seeing as how this is a common problem with these foot ascenders.

Seeing how much of an inconvienence this is as evidenced by the responses here, perhaps contact with CMI is in order on this and maybe we can get some consideration from them on this. I can see where a strap breaking mid climb could be a serious safety issue that they would want to correct ASAP.

It pissed me off more than anything. I ended up having to footlock up the rest of the way and I don't much care for footlocking. I do agree though in certain situations it could be dangerous.

On their website they have a cam wear-out guarantee, but no strap guarantee...

I will give them a call tomorrow and let y'all know what they say.

Thanks!
