climbing boots?

[ QUOTE ]
One piece of stitched leather all the way around, no other seems. That's what seperates the Limmers from other boots really.

Interesting. Sounds good.

What about wearing out the side of the boot, behind the big toe, from rubbing on bark while spiking?

Limmers are just one thickness there, right?

Definitely not the prettiest boots!! But, they are the most comfortable I have ever owned. So far they are just as durable as my Wescos, and FAR more durable than any of those junk asian made hikers I wasted money.

Same design and materials for 60 years, if their was a problem they would have made changes, and wouldnt have such a loyal and huge following is my thought on it.

so, i just checked out the site again.

I could not find a single picture of any boot with some height to it?

i mean, they are very low top. I would want a minimum of 12 inch "high top" for spur use.

i do not like up to the knee boots though, but i need some height

do u guys have a 12" limmer?

No I use the Standard which is about a 6" boot. Same as most other mid top hikers. Plenty of ankle support, FULL shank, not 3/4 like Wesco, Whites, etc. Sure they are stiff, but you don't feel any pain wearing spikes. I would choose these over my Wesco's standing in spikes any day of the week.

Being a natural leather, not synthetic or synthetically tanned, they do require maintenance, much like a pair of Wesco would. Cleaning them weekly with a brush, letting them dry fully without heat, and putting oil or grease on them as needed.

Do it Xman, I wouldn't steer you wrong! Better yet, drive to MA you can stay over at my place, and we'll drive the 2.5 hours up together from here.

Hey if you guys want to make a road trip out of it, let me know. I'll go up there with you.

I appreciate that.

I'm just gathering information for another time.

I have my custom Wescos coming next month.

they are either going to be really cool looking, or really ugly. I'm not sure yet.

So, won't need to make a boot choice for another 2 years again. I will consider Limmers at that time.

Besides, you guys just probably all want to get together so you can beat the crap out of me.

Who knows how many guys i've pissed off on the buzz over the years.

La Sportiva Glaciers have been my choice after trying all sorts. I climb daily and they last me 2 years. Not bad.

wow, it just doesn't look like they would last two years of constant use, but that's good to know.

Here is my photoshop version of what i think my Wescos will look like when they come.

I'm on my 3rd pair of glaciers now. They are tough boots. Good for spiking and so so for pruning. They last much longer if you switch between flexible pruning boots and save these for the felling and removal stuff. If anybody has climbed in any kayland or salewa boots i'd like to know how they are.

I've never sent any to be rebuilt.

i figured they were too far gone, plus, it takes time to package up and send; which i don't have time.

plus, i doubted it would be cheap to rebuild, but i was just guessing, i don't know anyone that has had a rebuild, so i really don't know.

It's been my experience that a high quality pair of inserts and the right socks can forgive some of the worst boots out there. I've used Superfeet inserts and they worked really well. I know many people here switched out all their socks to woolies. I've been in wool socks forever but it seems like only in the last few years can I wear them without a liner of some sort. Tom says it's because the fibers are hollow? Do what? Tell us more.

You would be amazed at what they can! Ive rebuilt 2 pair, its around $200 for a rebuild as I remember.

Limmer Lightweights. If youre not in spikes a lot you dont need the standards.

I am a big fan of all leather hikers, preferably with a stitch down sole, and handmade. The less seams the better.

Meindl Badile are nice light/mid weight, the Perfekt are nice too! As are Alico Guide and Summit boots. You can find either of these on Sierra trading post often @ good prices.

Hands down I would choose Limmer first though.

How long do you get out of your wescos xman?

Two years. I'm afraid to say that, because many people think two years is a short time.

It is a VERY LONG time if you use them every day and lots of hard work.

Other brand boots, honestly only lasted me 6 months before they could not be worn anymore.

Those boots around $200 to $300 and only last 6 months. Standard Wesco's from FAR WEST Line specialties, for maybe $340 now? and they last 2 years.

I'm expecting my custom ones to last longer. kevlar thread and the best sole made....
