Chainsaw hook

i guess that i was kinda vague on that one. What i mean is what kind of a hook do you use to attach your saw, either through the handle or lanyard ring to your harness? I haven't been able to find a big enough hook because when i use our echo saws i usually prefer to hook right through the handle and when i use our stihl saws i hook into the lanyard ring.

I snap in the lanyard on the belt and have a hook for the big ring. I'll either hang it high or lower it depending on where I'm going next. A couple of weeks ago I lowered it and the lanyard had come off the snap (Buckingham) and I caught the small ring with my little finger. Wednesday I was 30 ft. up in a locust and I heard a thump and looked down and my 338 was on the ground. Must have landed well because nothing was bent or broken. Not sure how it happened but I won't trust the snap again.

I'll let you in on a secret.

While the saw is falling, if you say over and over as fast as you can "Fall Right! Fall Right! Fall Right!," 9 times outta 10 it will land w/o damage.

When using a snap attachment you gotta be careful to NOT get the snap in a rubbing/binding situation, and you gotta be careful WHICH design you use.

I'm an old man, Butch; I can't think that fast. All I can get out is "Fall" and it's already done that and hit the ground. I had the same setup as Kevin but now I quick-link the lanyard on the snap loop. Works OK. I laughed a Kevin's suspenders because if I don't wear mine then the saw's dragging my saddle down to my feet .

That works just fine, Dan. I wanted to refer to that thread, but I couldn't remember where it was.

you can use a non locking "ladder hook" from the hardware store , you may have to attach it to your belt with a locking biner ora screw link...i used to us them to go over the handle.
now i use the dog leash style lanyard where it has a ring and loop on the bottom, and snap up top,
it gives me the ability to use a non locking accesory biner off my belt to hook the ring and keep the saw up high and the snap on the leash catches it if i gotta throw the saw,
generaly for trimming i just use a biner on the back of my saw.i really only strap up my midsize and large saws.

Is there ever a time when using that kind of lanyard that you can't reach far enough or that it inhibits your ability to cut safely? I'm really liking the "stretchy" lanyard from what i have seen so far.

depends on your arm reach, i am a sasquatch, so i have tremendously long arms, those stretchy ones are too short for me,
man up , use a lanyard for med to large saws, carry a small saw with a biner or ladder hook on the belt,
start with an echo if ya have to then move up to a stihl if your worried about droppage of saws,
oh yeah most everyone has dropped a saw in their time
sorry bout the man up bit, just the climber in me:>
