They were processing the burls themselves and making finished slabs and bowls. One of them had a woodshop in his apartment. They used a well known Boston park (Fenway Victory Gardens) across the street from the apartment to cut the burls down to working size with a chainsaw. That's how they were caught. One was in possession of meth when arrested. They cut quite a few burls off or park trees in Boston and Brookline. Tree folks in Boston are very happy they were finally caught.

Haha! I didn't realize Goodpredators link was to the Globe article from yesterday morning. They were busted approximately 1:00pm yesterday, apparently they don't read the morning newspaper or they might have reconsidered doing some public chainsaw work the same day.
Snagging burls seems like a pretty difficult way to get some cash for meth. I first heard about the thefts on Monday on the Comm ave mall. They did a great job getting the word out fast but I was still surprised how fast they got caught.

Who knows, the meth might've been incidental. It was a coincidence they were caught same day as the news story, just dumb luck mixed with their stupidity.
