Jimmy, you're funny. No I don't do ads for them too. /forum/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Greg and Jimmy, they are made by Garmont. Italian too. Here's where I bought them. Garmont at Mgear

I like all of the boots that Jelte showed too. Those are the types I look for. I usually wait until I find a pair on sale for @ $150 or so. The ones I linked to are on sale for $160 but the sizes are almost gone. That's because there is a newer version out now.

Oh, and they are pretty good for footlocking. I wear them for pruning and removing w/ gaffs. For all types of jobs, I find these types of boots are the best.

Not yet, but it hasn't really been a full year. I think I got 'em in early Spring. So far so good. I think that any boot that is designed like it will be a good choice. I like Scarpa, La Sportiva, Garmont... to name a few. That brand Jelte showed looks good too.

Do you buy boots online or are you able to fit them locally? I've always been skittish about buying boots online because I usually have to try on a dozen pair before I find one that fits. (Usually the most expensive)

I get alot of sawdust in my boots when I wear boots that low, and its hard to find a comfortable, grippy boot that is taller so the sawdust stays out. Have you had that problem??

I buy 'em online most of the time. I wanted to get a pair of Italian boots when I was over there, but didn't have time.

Cory, if I didn't have saw dust in my boots at the end of each day, I wouldn't feel normal. I guess I've just accepted it as part of the deal.

I have to go with Sportiva's. I have 2 pair that have been put through everything I can. Still holding up with no seperation anywhere after 2 years. Very tough boot. The leather on them is very durable. They are still comfortable too. You have to check them out. They are a little pricey. Around $225-$350. Well worth it though.
Scarpa has a couple candidates too.

been using sportiva's for years now. 2 pair makalus that lasted 3 to 4 years. i;m in the eiger now. just flat out awesome boots. wanted to get the nepal extreme for winter work but nobody will give them to me. for prunning i used the 5-ten guide almighty on and off for the last 2 years or so w/ lots of success. to bad they don't make them anymore. so in comes the scarpa pro ascent (see link in prev. post) found them online and bought them from scarpa sight unseen. got them about 6 weeks ago and have been pretty happy w/ them stiffer out of the box than i would like but they seem to be loosening up. could probably wear hooks w/ them but i have'nt. i'll let you know how they are over time.

Well I'll sheepishly raise my hand and say I do. They work great in every way but maybe could be a tad lighter. Price was right in that I already had them when I took to climbing not very long ago.

I like hiking boots for climbing but can not find a tall pair.Seems like the big leather ones wear you out on the ground.Company policy says we have to wear leather.Alot of hikers dont grip my pantin to well.

I use the logger boot too. I don't mind the wieght.

Years ago I kept switching different brands, Carolina, Caterpillar, Redwings, ect. Out of them redwings seems to last the longest, but still only 4 to 6 months before they had holes too large to use.

Then I tried WestCo. They are awesome. I got about 2 years out of my first pair. The leather is very thick, tongue sown in and the nicest thing is the extra flap of leather where the boot wears against the trunk while spiking. I think Sherrill used to sell them, around $300 I think. I get from a line supply company in CA for like $270 or so.

Now, my younger brother hates the weight of these logger type boots and wears your hiking boots you all seem to wear. But if he's climbing to do a removal he wears the WestCos too.

Do you guys really spike with those hiking type boots too? I would think if you spiked every day they would wear out in like 3 months or so? Or does the synthetic material somehow hold up better than leather?

Company policy is one thing, but the ISA (and I think they got this from ANSI) say "... leather or synthetic alternative..." which would allow you to use other materials. Besides, there are a lot of boots like the ones you've seen here that are all leather- just no huge heel.
