Boots

If you're looking for boots with chainsaw protection, I can recommend "Meindl".
I bought my pair of "Meindl Waldläufer" in February and enjoy wearing them everyday since.
At first they were extremly stiff, like the boots used for downhill-skiing, but
after a few days they softened up and over time they seem to fit better and better.
There are also a "pro" model
and a "Meindl Tree-climber", though I haven't tried them.

They also sell German workwear!?

i have them mneindl boots, bought them in september, love em, the most comfy chainsaw boots ive had yet.
i tried on a pair of the tree climbing boots also, they seemed comfy and i think i'll probably get some. i opted for the normal meindls as im doing a lot of ground work at the moment so didnt want to wear the climbing sole on the others out.

i wish we could climb in stuff like that here. any job we did on anything other that a back yard tree wearing something like that would get us kicked off the job in a jiffy

Teti-

I saw that you said you used Makalus.

I have a pair of 95's that are in pristine shape that I bought in 96 barely used then I never used them myself because they were a 1/2 to 1 size to big. If you are interested in another pair shoot me a message.

They double as my daily shoes, and since I am a student and not a professional, I don't get enough time in the trees to wear out a pair of shoes entirely due to tree work. As a pair of shoes for a person who impulsively climbs trees just for the fun of it, it one less thing you have to keep in the trunk of your car.

I really like the Nike Cindercones but after almost 1.5 years, they are about gone.

Where did you find yours Jelte? Drayer has them for €172. Seems a bit over priced.

for tall hikers you could try Danner, I have had some awesome boots from them over the years. I just switched from my safety boots to my mountain II gore tex boots last week after getting fed up with wet feet. what a difference a layer of gore tex makes.

I can't agree with you more about Danner. I have been wearing Danner Mountain light II boots for years. All leather uppers, vibrum soles, fit like a glove. They are what I wear working or not about 95% of the time.

Staying tied in,

Cory-

If the sawdust is bugging you, just buy a pair of cheap gators to wear over your boots. They cost about $10-$20. I use them when I spike in shorts to keep the straps on my spikes from cutting into the skin on my calves. But they do keep the sawdust out of your boots.

Brian,

Thanks for the idea....I've been thinking about doing just that but haven't tried it yet. I don't mind sawdust everywhere else, just not in the boots!

Yes, you must be an animal as Mark says...I tried shorts 2 or 3 times over the years and after each time, swore "never again!"

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr! Really, I work for myself with my wife so I don't have to put out the pace that you guys do. I swore I would never wear shorts, but my wife got me to try it, took a little getting used too, but really no worse than wearing a short sleeve t-shirt. Definitely a lot more comfortable in the heat.
