Best Ladder for Tree Work?

I'm still plenty comfy on a ladder but I definitely prefer the security of being on a rope at height. I've spent alot of time on both ladders and various types of scaffold and must admit to doing the same kind of things @Crimsonking alluded to, using legs to move the ladder, hopping it from place to place, etc.

When I worked in construction I was super comfortable with ladders and even balanced them until i reached the top, then let them rest against the wall. Or hang from trusses and use my legs to swing a ladder to the next needed location.

Now I can’t stand them and want to be tied in.
I used to do that silliness. I can walk a stepladder clear across the room without ever getting off of it, and I used to be able to carry a full extended 28’ ladder around upright all day without tipping it over.

Tripod orchard ladders are great for ornamental tree work. Hasagawa, Henchman, and Niwaki sell good ones.

The double slide thingies are great for accessing trees for some guys, and they are roped in of course. I prefer just climbing the rope SRT with foot and knee ascenders because ladders are a pain to unload and load.
Orchard ladders are great for working on ornamentals for sure. Some caution is required though, as ladders are still hazardous, no matter what.

If you do buy one, make sure the third leg is adjustable for length, it will be far more useful than a fixed length ladder.

X2! I find the fixed leg version almost useless.

I think someone famous once wrote that every man loves the smell of his own fart....Maybe it was Shakespeare or Henry Rollins?

Well I have three Hasagawas, so it's a bit late... ;) My lady likes the third leg just like it is... Honestly, I feel like it would take too much time adjusting a third leg, but I would have to try them side by side to know that. I move my ladder a lot when I'm doing ornamental pruning.

It's clear the we have reached a crossroad in this thread. Do we continue talking about ladders (fuck that), or do we go down this boner, flatulence, sexual innuendo rabbit hole. I myself choose the latter.....
yes rico, ladders of course
