Well, thanks guys. With all the BLD hype, I keep watching my tree like a hawk.

I didn't realize small trees were affected worse, I guess that makes sense though since they have smaller energy reserves, but I guessed the young trees had more vigor and might be more likely to survive.

Hopefully the treatments work, we have customers treating their trees, but that won't save the forest trees. The patch of woods I assessed the other week that is nearly all Beech is mostly small trees, unfortunately. Hopefully some of them manage to survive.

From what I've read/learned (mostly Cleveland Metroparks where it was first identified) its understory trees in a forest. They would not be more vigorous as a young landscape tree might be. They are already fighting for their survival with limited sun, so I think its like you said - smaller energy reserves.

I have posted several times since finding BLD in my trees in 2016, that they seem to have good years & bad.
Young trees are the most likely to die prematurely.

However, this year my older trees look terrible; very few leaves & mostly brown.

Thank you. I appreciate the update from someone who's been looking at this disease for so long. It's good to know that some of the trees may survive at least that long.

No. Too many beech. (10 acres of forest)
I have also given up on my ash.
