All your evil lies

It's just wild to me that the conversation about race is as far along as it is, while the economic angle is so much less so, as it's less superficially visible. But we are very much still living in the echoes of kings and peasants. Credit and stocks gave birth to a circus like casino where if you stick around to see it all play out, you see the house always wins.

Yes it does.

Is it because they are poor?

West Virginia is full of poor, poorly educated, white folks living amongst mine waste.

Is that because of color or class?
As of 2021 West Virginia is 91% white, 2.8 % black, 1.7% hispanic, and 0.8% asian With so few people of color in the state it is only natural that it is poor whites who are gonna take the brunt of the mining industry.

I know there are those who will try and justify the massive racial gaps in both our justice/judicial and economic systems, but it is pretty hard to argue against the notion that racism is heavily baked into both.

It was along these lines that I attempted to dive deeper into this @treegongfu post.

"A problem arose when they looked at the data and discovered that black children were being punished at a disproportionately high degree.
They then concluded that this was that this could only be the result of racism. To draw any other conlusion, or even consider any other reason for this, would itself be racist."

He seems to be suggesting that racism is not the reason that black children are being punished at higher levels? If so, what is causing these disproportionate numbers @treegongfu?

I think a person would have to ask what all the children did and how the punishment was distributed.

For an example, men get killed at work close to 10:1 compared to women.

Is that sexism? Are men just fatally flawed?

Is it a color issue or class issue or both?

My guess is that housing near waste is largely for poor people.

People with more means, overall, are more likely to not be there or move from there.

For what it's worth,

I grew up in the have-less part of my town and had no idea that having friends of all ethnic backgrounds was out of the ordinary.

At one birthday party for a friend, I realized that people were, by and large, speaking Spanish.
