$30 on CL!! I need to upgrade anyway

I'm actually interested in maybe offering the guy $10 if i continue to see it listed just to see how things would hang.

Though i would NEVER put my full weight on it. Everything i see (arbor gear wise) on CL is the absolute cheapest gear that can be found, and all nearly brand new, except for this one of course. Of course i wouldn't buy any life support gear anyway but always lookin for brand new deals

"While Jim tries to fit this arborist harness on the 900 lb. gorilla and check its temperature with a rectal thermometer, we'll take a break for this message from Mutual of Omaha..."

I miss that show... :risas:

My favorite was the episode where they lassoed an anaconda. I always wondered whether there were Wild Kingdom outtakes with Marlin screaming "Just shoot the f*cker..he's killing me!"

Yeah, Jim would be in the background getting choked out by an anaconda in the river, and old man Perkins would be sitting in a lawn chair, drinking a Mai Tai and selling insurance. Poor Jim would look like he was about to bite the dust, but Marlin would just drone on about life insurance. Probably already planning on how he's going to talk Jim into wrestling a Nile crocodile into a burlap sack while he watches from the Land Rover. Too funny.

Hey JeffGu, (or any others with an opinion on this issue..)

Noticed a splice in your media content of your profile.. Had TreeStuff string me up a custom length lanyard of 1/2"Ultra-Vee 16 Strand with ISC TriAct snaps. Upon arrival an since then i've been thinking if i screwed up by not having them splice some type of plastic thimbles? if thats what theyre called between the splice and snaps.

In your opinion are they neccessary to lengthen the lifetime of the splice or would the lanyard need replacing before the snaps would have a chance to wear the splices? I asked cause i notice in your pic that you had snap right to splice with nothing in between.

Sorry off subject, just thought i'd ask as i've seen many using those plastics between the two, thought maybe my investment would have been better if i had asked for them during installation...

I prefer to use them when I have them... but if I'm out, so be it...
I think that in all cases, a thimble does reduce rope wear, and helps a little with bend radius of the rope eye. But, I think that you're right about the lanyard wearing out long before the eye will. The tree bark is hell on rope.
Most of my rigging stuff, I use steel (usually stainless) thimbles, or sometimes the Cordura chafe guard. I seldom ever rig natural crotch, because I'd rather set blocks, etc. than buy rope all the time.
On the rare occasions when I do natural crotch, I use 3-strand ropes. They're cost effective and tougher than double braid ropes for that use.
If you do see a lot of wear in the eye, then next time around ask them to include the thimbles. I believe TreeStuff will gladly do that. Not sure about the other guys.

I take it i wouldn't be able to squeeze some of them in there now correct? I'm not familiar with the plastic little black ones but it seems, judging by pictures ive seen, that maaaybe i could struggle a bit and squeeze them between...?

Not sure why i didn't think of it while ordering but if it happens to wear out, i guess i could either knot them up or have someone (maybe even TS) splice em onto new line for me. When i first ordered it, i recieved the lanyard with splices but no Snaps spliced in, gotta LOVE TS cause they make it right ASAP! they told me to keep it and 2 days later had another 40 ft with the snaps.

I thought they were split towards the spliced side, thats what gave me the thought of possibly squeezing them in that tight fit. Might send TS a message to see if they'd be generous enough to send a couple my way to give it a try, couldn't hurt to ask! I'll let ya know if i get 'em in there

I did a bit of searching on TS with no luck, but haven't checked anywhere else. Good to hear, can i ask where you get em bulk?
