2016 srtwp redirects

I have not seen a redirect that beats this one. This video cut off the retrieval, but it works, but not when loaded unlike the horse knot or the slip knots. the quickie is nice but a biner works too or I suppose you don't even need a biner
Uhhhh... I didn't see a redirect @treebing

Fiddling around with this more, you can wrap the bight twice if you want say if you want to grip something more vertical at a particular position and there's no crotch. Wrap it twice and snug up the clove hitch on the bight against the spar, it won't budge but releases just as cleanly as a single wrap. The other thing that is so good is (as Kevin mentioned) when your weight is on the redirect you can tug as hard as you want on the release/tail and it's not going to come out.

Yeah, how many wraps of the hitch are you pulling with the Quickie on the tail?

It would seem that tail retrievable redirects are unsafe if you can't reach the ground...
I like the idea of carrying or asking a groundie for a second retrieval line. I would imagine not having a bail out to the ground would be a violation of the Z133...

If the retrieval end is attached to the redirect and the bight of your climbing line reaches the ground you're good to go as is. I guess that's what you're saying anyway, backwards ;-)

Most of you got it but here's a photo reference for posterity, quicker to make than a video.

It would be nice, maybe someone has done this, but to put these redirects into say three classifications.
ReDirect: A regular natural crotch type redirect.
Remotely Releasable ReDirect: This would be an example, removable pins etc.
Self Releasing ReDirect: Retrieval ball etc.
Releasable ReDirect: One that can be released directly by the climber, On Bight for example.
IMO, there are pros and cons to all of them and all are great to have in your tool box.

I do like this and I don't want to be the guy that comes up with negatives, perhaps just a word of caution with any Remotely Releasable ReDirects. Make sure you stay clear or the retrieval end. If for example it caught your harness, leg etc and temporarily became the load bearing side of that line, the consequences are obvious. I know how some of you guys swing and fly thru the tree!

With this one, if your swinging through the tree there is no way to pull it out. Only when your weight is completely off of it will it come out. However, if you were to drop a branch on the side going to the anchor it could possibly come out but I doubt it as the times I have pulled it out the back side, it takes a Lot of pulling even unweighted. I used to use my horse knot but that definitely had the hazard you discussed. The beasthorn has no such hazard that I have found.
