2016 srtwp redirects

I'm a bit of an internet geek on tree climb stuff and I've not seen this before.

Has anyone heard of this prior to release?

Just wondering about its development. I'll have to look this up and see what's out here on it.

What are the 'arms/legs' for? Seems like a ring with arms/legs from the video. I believe I'm missing something.

Interesting, besides as an attachment point for the accessory carabiner, not seeing the arms doing anything in the configuration shown. Maybe it's just to make it easy to grab and less easy to lose.

This redirect appears achievable with any quality ring with enough diameter to fit a bight of your climbing line through, around the wood and back through the ring again. The small biner keeps it on the rope so you don't lose it after releasing the redirect. A similar keeper could be made for a simple ring easily enough.

Which reminds me... I'm starting to think that these should be called retrievable anchors not retrievable redirects. Ideally you want your retrievable redirect to have all the reliability of any good SRT anchor. Obviously the anchor is typically at the beginning of the SRT system, redirects after... but if retrievable redirects are well conceived, the climber should be able to completely reorient the load direction on the rope, in effect converting it into a primary anchor. If that makes any sense.

Edit: Of course now I'm thinking about mixing up a fiddlestick with a ring, haha, just can't kill the the fiddlestick ;-)

So i've been playing with the single ring redirect. You know, the ring, an accessory biner and a standard biner to lock off. Basically just using a bight in your line as an anchor. Some call it the fiori redirect. Anyway. When using the tail to retrieve it works great. I just can't get my rope to pop off the ring in the final stage of the retrieval. The bight around the ring locks off pretty hard and I can't shake it free so it slides back to me. First does anybody have any idea what the hell i'm asking? Second, how do I fix it?

What size ring? The smaller the better...

Yup, I do this a-la Dan Curtis without a tether on the mini biner. Med sized DMM ring, 11mm kernmaster. Girth hitch has never been a problem releasing.

I have not seen a redirect that beats this one. This video cut off the retrieval, but it works, but not when loaded unlike the horse knot or the slip knots. the quickie is nice but a biner works too or I suppose you don't even need a biner
