2016 srtwp redirects

Too bad the creator of said redirect is kind of a cocky douchebag... For that reason I will never use it as to never give him any credit

I guess I see if you tranfered your weight from the working line to the retrieval side it would be a problem. I get what your saying.

That would be a clever trick. This one is the most resistant to accidental removal of any that have such a clean/reliable release. Any climber that uses these types of releasable redirects or anchors has to be aware of how they work and how they can fail. Nothing in tree climbing is fail-safe, but some techniques are better than others.

True, but it could be as simple as grabbing the wrong line in the heat of a moment or little slip. Probably lends itself to the thought of using a separate pull down line.

I hear you. For the Beasthorn redirect if your weight is on the rope you can't release it. There is fairly significant resistance for the initial release, that's an excellent feature. As usual the bleeding edge arbornauts will carefully test these things and report back. I'm fine with a separate pulldown.

It's a little harder with ropes but when I carry a short line I try to use a red biner on the ascender and and green one on my long line. Just reminds me that the short line may not reach the ground.

There is a sweet spot for complexity/simplicity for these redirects, production climbers can't mess around with too many moving parts, dangling lines dragging beind etc. I think that's why no widely accepted and used releasable redirect has emerged yet. Beasthorn is getting there.
