I am gonna take a wild guess that the guy(s) in the clean blue jeans may be crane operator(s). Those guys never get dirty going from the front cab to the back cab!
Yeah, both of those guys were for the crane co. One operator and one drove the counterweight and setup/tore down. Two of the guys to the right are friends of mine from Italy. They helped out on the ground.

Seems like a cut that the bar would be more apt to get stuck Mark, as you HAVE to finish them mating to get detachment as wood is so strong in the linear aspect. Other cuts can work against each other to snap off where this one is pinned in there. And the no back cut type of cut can just peel off or just cut all the way thru. Looks good in theory for safety tho.

Now if the piece is pretty well perfectly balanced no pinching should occur but then why make any back cut?
The only way you get pinched is if you make the cuts in the wrong order. You probably knew that already though. And if you are wrong, all you have to do is lift or sit the piece down for a click or two.

I am always blown away by the houses in your town, cool stuff.

Funny story...I was told the other day while there that a previous owner in the early 1900's looked at his house one day and decided it was too tall. So they set scaffolding all around the house, jacked up the roof, then completely removed the third floor, put the roof back down and reattached it. House circa I believe 1858.

While posting pictures, my wife would kill me, here is a picture of her before going out to dinner with close friends yesterday night, NYear's Eve. Isn't she beautiful...65 years old, we dated in high school, didn't see each other for about 15 years after I moved away. Got back together at a reunion while separated. We both divorced and were married in '86. Thirty years next year. Love of my life.

Thats a great story Dave and thanks for sharing. Puts life in perspective right?

We did this to the Ohio State Champ Bur Oak after it crushed the house next to it about 12 years ago. That is a whole new addition. It was hit with a downshear and 3 of the co doms had gaping splits towards the house. Not pretty, but still there and thriving, all cut back to laterals. Obviously not the state champ anymore based on size. 515 years old based on core taken by Oh. State in 1980 at 480 yrs old then. Tree is much bigger than picture appears and was well over 100' tall.

This is a great example of what Phil spoke about at TCI Expo this year. Managing veteran or ancient trees. Over time it'll look better and more importantly still be there.
