10 spot on Jared to win Internationals

Thats cool it was just ten bucks , but if it was more than we have to talk . Don't get wrong , your man is an excellent climber , Pop is a good guy too . How can you be the ISA ITCC champion when the judges had to stop you to fix your main tie in point after the third station ? ( so two were done unsafely)That is your main tie in point . also , there were lines installed that were never used . I argued with my buddy for two days . Jared had a real smooth climb but the judges had to stop time and tell him to fix his false crotch . That is a luxary we don't have everyday . PPE is more important than where you tie in and how you tie in ? dropped gear ? It was only ten bucks , but those are my two cents.

That sounds fishy bro.
What was wrong with his tie in?
Is there a rule that states you have to use ALL the lines that are installed? Nothing wrong with a second or third line for....whatever.

I agree that its not right to have a few stations done "unsafely" then all of a sudden he gets a chance to fix it?
Was ther a point deduction?

Shenanagins are not uncommon at these things.
I saw things at the Western chapter that would make the treebuzz turn upsidedown as far as safty concerns go.
Nuff said

Wish I cpould have made it back East
dang

The lines weren't a problem with me , I was just arguing with my buddy that in the iTCC he should have used them . Jared managed everything well , lot of lines going on . When climbs are that close , I thought Mark would win because of the time stoppage . I'm not sure the exact problem , but the head tech was looking at his false crotch for a while with binnocs , and finally before the last station they asked him to fix it . This is my arguement that I had with my travel buddy . I don't want to take nothing away from the guy he is a real smooth climber , I just letting you know my saturday night , five hundred dollar drinking arguement.

here's the real question,....w
s he asked to fix it because of his mistake? meaning did he cause the biner to sideload? or did the biner flip by itself, thus csusing a safety hazard that could not be ignored?

I agree 100% Riggs. I had a big prob with The results do to a couple things. Last year they said Mark lost because of poor rope angles. This year he tied in higher than anyone else and had the best rope angles. Jared had to be stopped for a safety reason, he used a rescue pulley attached to a rigging paw with a krab on a static line. Apparently the way he was going out was pushing the krab against a small branch thus side loading the krab, that was the safety concern, they let him go back and correct it. I don't have a prob with that, but i don't think a severe enough punishment was given, considering how much they stress safety at the international level. Should have been BIG deduction for that. His angles were less than desirable to the point that he put in "safety" re-directs. If you took notice Mark crossed over a large limb going to the pole saw station (better rope angle) also making it a natural safety, and he did the same on the opposing station.

There were somethings i thought Jared did better than Mark, but due to the rope angles and the Side loaded krab i don't think he could make up all those lost points. Just my opinion. But i think its a valid one!

SInce we are chiming in here?! He was also asked to rehang the polesaw at the pole saw station, after he had left the station? Although i thought he was awesome, and when he was done I realized it would be close, as I worked through the climb in my head I thought Mark edged him. Mark also had some showier big moves which wowed the crowed!! He made Large moves and stuck his landings! That definitely counts for style points!FOr what its worth I do have 25 years of climbing exper, have competed and judged the work climb more than a few times.I say this not to sound in any way arrogant ,simply to clarify my perspective.
All in the Masters are good climbers !! and competitors.

Great points Country, about the rope angles ,redirects etc! I mentioned that to Rick at the climb.Nice steep angles for Mark.In fact at the pole saw station prior to installing his redirect(Jared) i thought for sure the judges would call him on how flat his rope angle had become!! They did for a previous climber!!

Not speculations on my part!just rendering an opinion . And by NO means trying to down play Jareds win!! Please do not miss understand me! He was awesome, and seems like a great kid! This is not sour grapes, just a commentary.

exactly what tai said. I'm in no way trying to take anything away from what jared did. An amazing climb, blew my mind that he was so calm cool collected, was smooth through the whole thing. Never let anything rattle him. I liked the "safety redirects" thought that was a great idea that i will use at work. Fully respect the guy, i'm sure we will be seeing some more great things out of him (possibly a new world record in the footlock.) I was simply giving my opinion on what i had saw. I took something from every climber and thought they all very much so deserved to be there.

Lets also remember that Jared is pretty young,
He is only getting started.

Hey Tr33climb3r,
He works for his Dads company in Northern California.
They do tons of big Eucs removals so he gets alot of climbing in. Anyone who has seen his Dad Gary climb knows where his kid gets it from. Quite an amazing family.

Some crazy speculations going on here...

Observations . Thats why they have so many judges . Most of the crowd watching the Masters are climbers . A couple father climbers walking around watching their sons climb in the Masters challenge . How cool is that ? Bring your wallet to Chicago 2010 Jesse , I'm not betting against your man and I'm not betting on him either.

Jesse , it's people like us that keep this event alive. You're there or want to be there . Between me and Pete Thomas , we spent thirteen hundred dollars to see the ITCC . Room, board , good time . See you in 2010, i'll bring more money next time . THE Tree climbers super bowl , worth evry penny .

Hi gang, sorry I didn't chime in earlier, but it takes a few days to get your head back on after an event like this.

Thanks for the kind words for my behalf. It means a lot to me to know that some people out there thought I did a good job. I know it makes my family proud too.

As for the results, well they are what they are. I am perfectly cool with them. I knew it would be close for the three of us, just didn't realize how close. I told Jared yesterday that I thought a tie in points would be easy on my mind through out the year, but now I think differently.

Either way it doesn't really change anything. Let's not tarnish the fantastic job Jared did. We did our climbs and now we are back to the real world. Jared deserved a win. His dad deserved a win. Heck his whole family deserved it! They are great people and all are a class act. I smile just thinking about them and what they have achieved.

Jared isn't a new comer or a kid. He has been competing for years and his experience shows. He isn't going anywhere for a while. He will get more titles and one might even be "World Record Footlocker"!

That being said, I agree with Riggs and Bull- Mark in 2010! (I aint done yet either
