Trimming limbs overhanging customers property but the tree is owned by the neighbor.

Anybody have any experience with this? Especially when the neighbor is not on good terms? I figure I will knock on the door of the neighbor’s house and tell them what we are doing before I do it. Even though I know technically it is ok to do I don’t need any hassles.

I am really intrigued/interested in the Hitchhiker X. I have been reading up on it and checking out the videos on YouTube from Climbing Innovations. It looks like they are sold out on the Climbing Innovations website. Does anybody have one? Know where to get it? Have any feedback?

    NJ Board of tree experts.

I am sure there are some that can sympathize and some that will tell me tough shit but here goes. I started my business 3 years ago in NJ. I have been on and off again in the industry for 13 years. Unfortunately a lot of my work was in other states, contract work, side work etc. in other words...

Worker’s Comp in NJ. Who’s got it and who do you use?

I am going into my 3rd year state assigned risk pool or whatever. Essentially I had to guess payroll for first year and pay that all up front. For the first two years that worked out fine. This year we got way busier and had way more payroll. I knew I was over my estimate by a lot and I...

Moving away from working for homeowners to more of a b to b business model.

What are the pros and cons? We are small, just the two of us. Chip truck 12” chipped, Dingo with BMG. Rent crane or lift when needed (rare). No payments. I don’t want to get bigger but am tired of running 7 days a week. My strong suits are doing tree work and working on all of the equipment...

    Rope Runner creep?

Sorry if it has been discussed before but is anybody experiencing some creep with their Rope Runner? I am using the reccomended rope but sometimes when I sit back in the saddle it just slowly creeps. Sometimes it doesn't. Not sure if I am missing something. I am about 140 plus gear if that matters.

Sub contract work for other companies?

For all the guys that do sub work for other companies; -How did you approach the subject with other companies? -What services do you offer? (Just climbing, all your equipment, ground guy etc.)? -Does it build a good relationship with other local companies? -Is it mutually beneficial? I guess I...

With EAB in the mid-Atlantic, when can you climb?

Ash trees in my area are starting to get hit. I have seen several where the trunk just snapped 20 feet up, good size trunks. Kind of gives me the heebee jeebies. I just looked at a job with 6 Ash removals. Pretty big. Look like they are on the decline. They would need climbing and rigging...

15 years of doing tree work and had my first property damage today.

I have had a perfect track record thus far. Sure I've dented some lawns and maybe grazed something with a limb and had to wipe a piece of bark off of it. But today I managed to swing a big Poplar top too far and a couple limbs hit a chain link fence section an bent it up a little. It is really...

Arb Pro 2 boots? Yay or nay?

I am burning through my second pair of Salewa Firetail EVOs in a year and wondering if I can get more life out of the Pro 2s? I love the fit of the Salewas, but they just don't hold up that well for full time climbing duties. I am guilty of wearing them all the time because they are so...

Looking for a newer 12" chipper. Who has something near NJ?

Looking for a replacement for my BC1230A. It is pretty tired all over and I don't want to sink more money into it. Looking for a newer low hours 12" chipper. I would prefer a Bandit or a Morbark. I am not a fan of the vertical feed rollers. Let me know what you've got!

How is winter looking for everybody?

This is my first year I have been full time as my own business. Things were pretty good all year. We managed to up grade and add some equipment and have done so with cash so no payments. Just wondering how busy everybody is shaping up to be for the winter. We still have several jobs scheduled...

    Morbark M12R and M12RX Feedback?

anybody have any experience or feedback about these models? I looked at them at the expo and liked their simple and seemingly robust design as well as the gas engine offerings. This might be the first piece of equipment I buy new and am not a big fan of all the emissions stuff on the newer...

Vermeer BC1230 Feed Wheel Stator Rotor replacement

I don't have a service manual for my BC1230A Chipper. I am replacing one of the feed wheel hydraulic motors because the bearing is shot and it is leaking like crazy. I got one used off of another BC1230 and put it on and it seems to work great and no leaks! My question is about the shaft on...

Vermeer 1230 chipper stop reverse bar valve. Get it from Vermeer or can I cross reference to a diffe

A branch fell on the linkage that connects to the feed stop bar linkage that is hooked to the valve. It tweaked the plunger that goes in and out on the valve so it is difficult for it to move. I can fix the linkage but I am probably going to need a new valve since it does not operate smoothly...
