I like two have 2 short loopie slings with me and a biner for each. I will "lead" climb like a rockclimber, placing fall protection as I go. This is usually done when my TIP is in another tree, and I don't want to take a swing. This way I can freely use my lanyard for work positioning and not...
BOTS, that's my dream truck. Seriously. Keep your eye out for another eh? Those Cali rust free dreams are just unseen around these parts. To much salt on our roads. I would make the road trip in a heartbeat for a sweetheart truck like that!
DJM,
A note on turf damage. I bought a Boxer mini 320 last summer and I was mortified at the turf damage it is capable of. I came up with a pretty neat solution though. I had some BF goodrich barn stall mats kicking around. they are 3/4 thick and I bout 16ft long. 3 ft wide. I can roll them...
Royce,
You will regret not having 4x4 in the green mt state. I promise!
I run a F350 7.3 powerstroke (needs to retire), but it has hauled everything I've asked. Not fast, probably not safely, but it has done it.
My lucas mill has a slabbing attachment. Check out their website. I can crank out boards. Or switch over and slab. Can do up to 50 inch slabs off the same powerhead. The mill can be set up around a log that is to big to move otherwise and you can mill almost any size log (in my neck of the woods...
chainsaw milling is in the stone age compared to using a swingblade mill. Think of all the lumber you could load on your arbor trolley!!! My favorite is milling the clients tree into lumber and leaving it on site. A great way to utilize the tree and get paid 2x
Brian,
Nice video!
Looks like you should get a sawmill. Check out the swingblade mills. Lucas and Peterson. You can carry those mills into back yards and make lumber. That was a lot of wood getting bucked at the end.
Due to 2 recent incidences, 1 job was mine 1 wasnt. Where property damage (minimal) occurred on side leaning trees. On was a whole tree flop, and the other a side and back leaning spar. Both incidences ended with hinge failure. And although the damages were minimal I was mortified at the thought...
From the picture of you at the stump, your escape routes looked limited. Did that influence you stay at the stump as well?
I am glad you are ok! I use a spotter when I can. especially with dead trees.
Take care
I bought a left foot pantin after having the right one for a while. I felt like my legs were getting uneven workouts. Just switch it up. Tree to tree, day to day.
