New crane slings -- arbsession community project

I have 3 25 foot slings I had my supplier make. Double braid with a Plasma core (same or better than Amsteel Blue.) Stiffish, so they don't pick. One is 9/16th, so it has an appx 30,000 tensile . They're not certified...Similar to amsteel 2 but Puget Sound Ropes' product. There's only one eye...

Fargesia Rufa - hardy clumping bamboo - Control Spread

Cutting the edge shoots may make it spread faster. But what else can you do? I have an unknown variety (under 5' height) in my yard, under a large Japanese maple. It was no more than 4 feet wide 34 years ago, and now is close to 12-15'. Nothing I can do, save trim to control it.

see you in the trees...RIP Oakwilt :(

Treetopflyer said: The only oak wilt we'll ever have loved Couldn't agree more! It would have been the late 1990's that I started reading the old ISA forum. I rarely commented, if ever. But oakwilt was among the most scintillating to read. I don't recall him posting here..

    "One handing" a chainsaw??!!

Lifeline. TIP broke. I've always said the most dangerous thing we do is setting a lifeline and climbing on it..especially in a conifer where it is hard to get it set near the trunk and/or over more than one limb, and when visual inspection is difficult due to foliage blocking its view. And in a...

    "One handing" a chainsaw??!!

I haven't checked in to see how John Ogletree is progressing. The faux pas which caused his fall was attempting to set a line in a Port Orford cedar. Didn't work. He fell. Patrick Clemo, my associate, ex-worker, and now owner of Westside Tree Care, walked under a 110 lb fir chunk, from ~70 feet...

    64 Asplundh Whisper Chipper,

Thank you, Tom! It was! Scott Baker and friends threw a rockin' party for the old fart, just as he turned into decade number 7.... Close to 20 years ago, Scott had cut the butt lower of a 54" deodar that I removed..and had carved my initials in. It was the featured piece on the fire! Lotsa tree...

    Needing a bigger saw.

I've heard a bit about the 572.... I'd imagine they won't hop up as well the the 372 did.... I only have one of the new design saws, a 550XP which also has been fully modded. I like it, but think my ported 346XP's were faster. My ehp 357, done by Ed Heard many years ago, is a freakin' screamer...

    Needing a bigger saw.

Watched Conor run his brand new 661 which he had Wood's Logging (Sedro Wooley) woods port. I've run many 066/660's over the years, always with a dual port muffler. They are much lighter than a 395, but have less power when each are in bone stock form. Personally, I'd get a ported 390, done by...
