As with face-cuts and strap hinges there are a variety of ways to approach step cuts. If it is cut to become ‘free’, which is easily and safely achievable on vertical timber, then a tiny amount of pull is all it takes to lift it or more rather ‘swipe’ it into the rigging. I predominately use...
You have the piece tensioned into the Hobbs with a tiny pendulum but use a face-cut each time, why no snap (mis-match) cut?
And....does the straight leg thing change on much smaller wood?
Thanks.
Thank you for the compliment, I will pass it around. This site was kinda special and we prepped so much for it that by the time I got to climb I felt like I had forgotten all my techniques...quite literally pausing to question each move is a bizarre thing when what I really want to be doing is...
and to answer ‘why’ they work at night, it must be a few things. As Bucknut said, and a status quo of not accepting that contractors can work alongside the moving trains.
Thank you, Tom.
Maruichi don’t work at night. Contractors that do have a window of just a few hours to get stuff done. You can see on the Sakura that the branches have been removed which was done by another company and at night time. They just couldn’t manage the stuff that we went in to do...
Thank you. Two weeks with 8 members. 4 in the climbing crew and 4 in the reeve. I’m not sure if it is so clear in this video but there were two reeve systems because the extraction was around 200M.
Intensive in manpower? We had three people for the Sakura rigging. One climber and one at each...
None of the hybrid device’s lower part function as well as the hitch climber and when I tried the Eccentric pulley last year I put my Bone in storage. The Wrench is a looong system but that is my only gripe....well, that and it taking a little more time to install on rope. I have been enjoying...
Hello and thanks.
While I do like non-stretchy lines I don’t dislike ropes such as Tachyon and Drenaline, after all the stretch is there for a very good reason. I use top anchors exclusively for work so there tends to be less rope in my systems anyway.
The chap on drenaline and the Runner is...
Maruichi recently spent two weeks in central Tokyo working for Japan Rail. It is the first time that treework has been allowed in the day time and we had to be careful in our approach to removing and extracting eight trees.
