    Tom's Reuters article forgot to mention the 10,000 years of slavery prior to its starting point. Bucknut did a pretty good job of describing it. I'd add there were black owners of black slaves in the US as well and that the first legal slave was a black man owned by a black man.

    You can only say that in relation to an imagined ideal. You can't say that in comparison to any other previously existing society. And you can't really compare it to any other existing one because it's greatness is so vast that it now encompasses the entire world in most regards.
