Not willing to change how one works based on new data? That is a problem in our industry. Take a stroll through the FB groups and you'll see plenty of that. In this thread alone there's 3 accounts of pieces flying so, I'd say it's worth considering.
Instead of downplaying it or calling it a...
Well the point of not wearing spikes is to reduce the wounding. Once you don't think of them as an option for pruning you'll find it will improve your climbing and work positioning in any tree.
Wow, that's some impressive arc! I recently had a smaller piece of an ash launched back up to me in the bucket. Was like a fly ball hit to center field. I watched it come up and towards me. Put up my hand and caught it, hero like. :bailando:
It's all in the footwork. Between your lanyard and feet you've got a triangle to enable you to position. I've found the top of my foot as useful as the bottom in many scenarios.
It's just a more extreme version of fishing that I've seen crane ops here do. Go big or go home... I bet that cutter was on his way home when he walked passed the camera dude.
It would seem that you did it spikeless. I've never climbed a prune with spikes. Wasn't trained to consider it an option so, I just had to solve the problems. Adding more wounds is antithetical to our goals when doing storm damage restoration. Not to say safety is not a consideration but I don't...
Plenty of people work in jobs they have trained for but didn't love. One of my students had worked for 17 yrs as a chartered accountant rising to the level of executive director of finance for one of the biggest credit card companies in the world. He told me he hated numbers!
I understand your frustration as expressed by your response to limbcontrol's post. First let me tell you I was a facilitator in a job search program that taught people how to find work. I've heard your story hundreds of times over. I lived it when I was let go by an employer whom I had a...
It's situations like these that often push as that little bit extra so we can achieve even more than we would have.

Thanks Sean. Yes, I recall it. I've been told that TCIA is working with the Dept of Labor in NJ to develop an apprenticeship here. I'm very interested to see what they come up with!
Much or what one is trying to assess when hiring is the prospective new hire's ability to achieve the desired level of productivity in a given timeframe. Further to this is balancing the company's level of urgency in filling the position and the pool of candidates available at the time.
So, if...
Coffee..... Damn, I've got a 12 cup Bialetti mocha pot. I get probably 4 lattes in my BATM (Big Ass Travel Mug). That gets through my 42 mile morning commute. The beans are Casterino from Italy. I rough it through the day with 1 or 2 cups of "dirty water", then do the return trip home with a...
I hope for the sake of that other tree company he doesn't take any time off or a sharp lawyer catches up with him. That he's not on the book doesn't automatically exclude him from WC. A lesson learned the hard way by a former boss.
@bonner1040 I hate to beat you up on this but, get your act together, put something out there cuz this is spreading all over the web. FB groups wondering if Treestuff is going under, plenty dissatisfied. One thing about b2b, its all about time, You've got JIT (just in time), uptime (good!)...
